Guilty of contempt! Ibrahim Ali gets a day's jail
Awakened: I hope this will serve a good lesson to Malay right group Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali, who has indeed gone too far.
I hope this lesson will make him reflect and repent so that Allah can forgive him. To repent, he has to follow the six steps as mentioned in the Al-Quran - that is to admit his mistake, apologise to those whom he has hurt and never commit the same mistake again, and so on.
Anonymous #36950150: A one-day sentence is like calling him to come for tea and curry puffs.
Hplooi: Remember a prisoner-of-conscience is still being incarcerated and harassed daily even in prison, whereas this despicable hate-monger is only slapped with a one-day sentence; possibly being feted with nasi lemak and teh tarik whilst discharging his one-day penance.
Remember Hindraf leader P Uthayakumar.
Lim Chong Leong: Justice VT Singham was and is still one of the most righteous and respected judges of all times. He did not play ball with Umno and was thus shunned from elevation to the higher benches.
Those who do no favours to Umno are labelled as pro-opposition and have their sexual orientation questioned by pro-Umno and outsourced thugs.
PM Najib Abdul Razak tries to hide behind the Perkasa mask but everyone knows Umno is Perkasa, just like everyone knows that Superman is Clark Kent. Only a dumb Lois Lane will not see through the shallow disguise, and we are not that dumb.
Clearwater: We have to be grateful for little mercies. One day's jail for contempt is a lot better than nothing at all.
Fair Play: Let's look on the bright side. A jailbird is a jailbird whether the sentence is one hour or 100 years. From henceforth, Ibrahim Ali will always be known as an ex-convict.
Think of the damage done to his inflated ego. Can he live with it for the rest of his life?
SusahKes: Perkasa patron Dr Mahathir Mohamad in hospital , Ibrahim Ali in jail, Sarawakians giving a warning to Perkasa to stay out... Are the signs ominous?
By the way, everybody, please have pity on the jail. I'm sure even the lock-up cell and the spirits of its past occupants will loathe having the presence of this slimy toad, even if it's just for one day.
Ferdtan: Sorry Ibrahim Ali, your ‘godfather' Mahathir cannot help you this time as he is in hospital. Likewise, don't expect Najib to lend a helping hand to clear your name.
Najib and his team had won the party positions in spite of Mahathir's involvement in the campaigning for his son. If he could, he would prefer to throw the whole group of you under the bus.
Many of the statements and outcry that came out of Perkasa seemed to make the PM look like he is weak.
So Umno bloggers such as Zainuddin Salleh who are not with the PM's clique, don't expect any protection from the administration. It is no longer safe to be in Mahathir's camp.
Apolitical Observer: The sentence is a soft knock on his head but a tight slap on his face.
Ibrahim Ali serves time with a teh tarik
Geronimo: Now the court officers are able to interpret the way Ibrahim Ali is to be jailed. If he is to be behind bars, he is to be behind bars, period, and he is not supposed to exit the lock-up until 5pm, not the courthouse.
Lock-up, courthouse, there is a difference between the two, or are the officers just pure duffers. I think the judge should jail these officers for a day to enable them to understand the difference.
2zzzxxx: When you are an Umno member, you can serve your sentence of a day's jail by enjoying teh tarik at the court cafeteria. In the land of endless possibilities, you need to be with Umno to be allowed all these special privileges and immunities.
Dont Just Talk: One guy who claimed that he was sodomised had coffee and curry puffs, then two days later decided to lodge a police report.
The infamous ‘Raja Katak' who claims to be the champion of Malay supremacy, chose to have teh tarik in the court compound to serve out his one-day sentence for contempt of court. This is what we always say, Malaysia Boleh.
Multi Racial: What a joke. I thought he was sentenced to jail. How come he is in the cafeteria? Can other criminals ask to be in the cafeteria to serve out their terms? If they can't then I would want to know why there is such double standards.
Wira: Isn't one-day jail defined as 24-hour detention? Perhaps all clocks in our courts switch to the next day upon reaching one minute after 5pm. Or maybe when we talk about a day in Bolehland, they do not include night because there is no sunlight at night.
Headhunter: Technically Ibrahim Ali has not served his time. To qualify as a jailbird that he is, he should be confined in a cell like the rest of the common criminals. Can the home minister tell us why he should be given special treatment?
Ipohcrite: As an Umno-friendly self-proclaimed defender of the Malays, Ibrahim Ali can always file a claim to Umno for reimbursement for his RM20,000 fine.
But for his one-day jail sentence, the least the BN government can do to compensate him is to make him an envoy and send him, say, to Mongolia.
