YOURSAY 'Kudos to the Malays in Sungai Limau, you deserve a big standing ovation. You did not fall for the bribery of the corrupt Umno-BN.'
Millions of ringgit spent, but victory eludes BN
Onyourtoes: If Malaysians have awakened, it does not matter whether it is millions or billions that Umno has spent. PAS, PKR and DAP will win and come into power eventually.
I have an inkling that Malaysians do not want any of the soiled money of Umno-BN anymore. Malaysians want to know the truth of all the moronic episodes that have occurred over the past few decades.
We want to know the true net worth of that RM44 billion dollar man. We want to know the truth of all those detained under ISA. We want to know how DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng became a common criminal and a prisoner in Kajang.
We want to know who killed Altantuya Shaariibuu. We want to know who took the submarine commission and how much. We want to know how TBH (Teoh Beng Hock) died. We want to know the truth of Sodomy I and II. We want to know all the secret privatisation, concession and AP (approved permit) deals.
We want to know all about the failed construction projects - the fallen roofs, the collapsed walls and the cracked highways.
Disgusted: So, Chinese can be bought easily in the outskirts of cities and towns. According to Kedah MB Mukhriz Mahathir, 60 percent of Chinese votes went to BN and Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang maintained that the community had "rejected" Pakatan Rakyat this time.
Shame on the Chinese who prostituted themselves for self-gain. By the way, don't ever say Indians can be bought easily when the Chinese are no better.
Kudos to the Malays in Sungai Limau, you deserve a big standing ovation. You did not fall for the bribery of the corrupt Umno-BN. God (Allah) bless you all.
Homesick: I am very disappointed with the Chinese who voted for BN. Don't these Chinese ever learn? Time and time again, they were lied to and yet they still fall for the lies. This goes to show that a bit of money can still do wonders.
Not Confused: Once again, those sadly deluded voters in Sungai Limau who voted for BN need to wake up and smell the coffee. The mentality of voters who are hoodwinked into believing the lies and arrogance of BN is to be deplored.
By splashing out RM15 million of taxpayers' money (not BN funds) they show their utter disrespect and disregard for the rakyat. Unfortunately, there are still some who are taken in by this kind of corruption.
Not Smart: What ‘victory over defeat' is the Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil talking about? Based on the high cost, time and effort put in to reduce the support for PAS, this time around, it is a double defeat.
Based on the above statistics, there was 60 percent of Chinese support. Leaving the Indians aside, was there 60 percent support for BN from the Malays?
Ksn: Those millions, all from public funds, will not work anymore as the rakyat is more than aware of what the Umno Baru government has been doing for the last 30 over years - abuse of public funds, law, power, to list just a few.
The last GE sent a clear and strong message, with 52 percent of the people voting against them. This by-election result, the defeat in spite of the millions spent, is adding to that message of GE13.
Umno Baru is on its way out, and with it, the other so-called BN partners who have been nothing but slaves to Umno Baru.
FellowMalaysian: The folk of Sg Limau may comprise farmers, fishermen and Felda settlers; i.e. poor rural people.
But these same folk have set a shining example to the more educated and wealthier people in the rest of the country on Monday: that being poor does not mean that they will succumb to material wealth dangling right in front of their eyes.
By rejecting BN, which poured millions of ringgit into their house yards, schools and roads in a matter of just two weeks of campaigning, it is indeed a humbling lesson to learn from the simple folk of Sg Limau that the virtues of value, dignity, honour and integrity triumph over any form of material reward.
The Sg Limau people have steadfastly refused to sell their souls to the corrupt regime of BN. They have indeed shown us that their votes are priceless.
Ferdtan: The ability of PAS to win in the rural Sg Limau of Kedah is contradictory to what most pundits would say of poor and uneducated folk when seduced with BN's avalanche of bribes to get their votes.
RM5.5million to various schools, RM1.18 million on housing for Felda settlers, free spectacles, funds to repair houses, millions of ringgit for the fishermen, for mosques and discounted sugar and rice sales of RM1 per 1kg pack and RM5 for 5kg rice respectively.
Never doubt the importance of reaching out to the people explaining the true situation of the country; the key is communication. Take this lesson to the interior areas of Sabah and Sarawak.
It is not necessary to use money to win votes but to recognise and nurture the wisdom of the common folk. For Pakatan to win GE14, more volunteers are needed to penetrate the remote towns, especially in East Malaysia.
888: Former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew once commented that in the next 20 or so years, all Parliament seats in Malaysia will have majority Malay voters.
Even if this is so, it does not mean Umno will win all, as seen in this by-election. Able thinking and right-thinking Malays will reject a corrupt party.
Thequest: What moral victory is Umno talking about? Wasting millions of ringgit in taxpayers' money and still losing? And yet it speaks of a moral victory.
For the amount of resources and strength at its disposal, promises made as well as racial and religious issues spun, PAS should have been knocked out completely.
SpongeBob: Umno's newly elected leaders have no impact on the Malay community. The people of Sungai Limau couldn't care less or give a damn to whichever Umno leader who came to campaign.
The newly-elected leaders cannot even win the Malay community support and the Sungai Limau people have proven this. This is just the beginning.
Cry, My Beloved Country: It's "victory over defeat" as Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat touted after RM15 million spent by both state and federal governments.
This incredible, much lauded "success" becomes a call to all Malaysians to continue to work steadfastly for more of such "successes" for BN. Come let us join hands and put BN and its cohorts to pasture.
Fair Play: Self-delusion in the Land of Endless Possibilities. "Victory over defeat" as asserted by Shahrizat reminds me of a story I read somewhere about candidates in India who attempted the globally recognised LLB from the University of London and failed.
They included in their resumes the credential, 'LLB (London) - Failed' when applying for jobs. Failing the LLB is an achievement indeed for these self-deluded candidates. But then again, what can we expect from Shahrizat?
