If they lose Umno polls, it'll still be the fault of the Chinese

VOXPOP 'Climbing to the top leadership through bashing the Chinese in Umno is nothing new. The more 'kau' they bash the better chances they have.'

'Chinese tsunami shouldn't end my Umno career'

vox populi small thumbnailOdin: Ex-Malacca Chief Minister Ali Rustam, your brains must have been dulled by your greed for money. The seat you contested consisted of 53 percent Malays, 41 percent Chinese and 6 percent Indians.

If the Malays had supported you, you would have won it. Obviously not all had. Now you put the blame on the Chinese for your unpopularity. You are a disgusting crook!

AF McLaren: Enough lah Ali Rustam, you have been tokong of Malacca for more than 10 years. Now you have installed your nominee as the CM. You lost by 5,000 votes in a 53 percent Malay majority area. Please don't blame the Chinese for your loss, especially since your Chinese partners are doing roaring business in Malacca.

BTN: His seat Bukit Katil was supposed to be a safe seat for whomever Umno puts there and yet Ali Rustam lost more than 5,000 votes. When did the Malays who voted against him become Chinese?

Ali Rustam has spent too long living in a small town or kampung until he has no more reasoning power. With him gone from our face we suddenly have another CM in Idris Haron. He may defeat his master Ali as the most ignorant and stupid CM ever in Malacca. Allah have mercy on the people of the state.

Anonymous #40538199: The Chinese alone could not have defeated him during that election. The Malays discarded him as well. It was when he knew that the sizable number of Malays were going to discard him, that his expectation of the Chinese to bail him out that didn't come through made him so mad with the Chinese.

It shows that his brand of politics was rejected by a mixed constituency with the Malay being the majority.

Anonymous #07443216: Ali Rustam is just too thick in the head; does he not know when he is a spent force? Everything that goes wrong he blames the Chinese - did he fail his math in school?

Malaysian Born: He lost both the Chinese and the Malay vote, and the use of inappropriate funding for his son's wedding did not go down well. In fact it was really over the top, especially after he tried to justify it. When it suits him he can be incredibly racist and arrogant in his behaviour and comments. Time to retire from politics and concentrate on his business interests anyway.

Fire_rock: Ali Rustam, you mentioned in a PPP convention prior to GE12 that BN does not need Chinese and Indian votes, so why the blame for your loss in GE 13 on the Chinese? You thought you were popular by creating a local Guinness record in attendance for your son's wedding.

I bet there was abuse of state resources for the wedding especially when soldiers were relegated to bandaraya cleaners at the event. Meanwhile you are already 64, hence you should make way for the younger ones especially those below 50.

1Mockery: If I can remember correctly, immediate remarks by him after the general election was he was backstabbed by his party mates and he knew who they were. Now when the Umno election is coming, he is blaming the so-called Chinese Tsunami, just to make known that he is a champion of the Malays. These guys never stop lying.

Newday: If Umno delegates vote for someone who bashes the non‑Malays to cover his own weaknesses and misfortune as the main reason for supporting such a person, it would just confirm that Umno is nothing but a racist party.

It would be acceptable if appeals for votes are based on what they can do for the nation and to help Malays progress, but not to find fault and run down other Malaysians. Beware! These kinds of leaders are wolves in sheep's clothing as they are purely contesting for self‑interests. Will Umno delegates ever learn?

Onyourtoes: It is sickening to see candidates vying for positions in Umno resorting to racism and bigotry to gain support. We have candidates using Malay rhetoric like race supremacy and Islam centrism. Now we have one using the Chinese tsunami.

These are leaders not only unable to lead their people to enlightenment and progressiveness, but instead, they have chosen to reinforce in them tribal instincts and parochialism for their narrow selfish ends. Despicable to the core.

SenyumUnta: Climbing to the top leadership through 'bashing the Chinese' in Umno is nothing new. The more 'kau' they bash the better chances they have. Just look back at all the Umno leaders except the late Tunku Abdul Rahman. The only way to stop this unhealthy trend is to eliminate Umno or put it to dormant mode.

James_3392: Watch out with this 'blame others' mentality. After he loses in the Umno election, he will still blame the Chinese for not supporting him.

Khairy: I got results while others spewed Malay rhetoric

Onyourtoes: Racist rhetoric is wrong. But championing and doing the wrong things is also not right. Are you saying it is okay for Umno Youth to do all the racist stuff (on the quiet) but leave the rhetoric to NGOs like Perkasa?

Umno Youth must not only say the right things, it must also do the right stuff. Umno Youth must champion and do what is right, clean, fair, equal, and inclusive. Please get your perspectives right ‑ which one is worse, Perkasa talking big but not doing, or you not saying but doing it on the sly?

Black Mamba: To Perkasa's chief Ibrahim Ali talk is forever cheap. It's easy to rile up sentiments and throw allegations of Malays being deprived. On the contrary previous PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad once said that Malays get everything and are still suffering because they are shameless, without dignity and not hardworking. I think it fits the bill perfectly with regards to Ibrahim Ali. Umno Youth will be doomed if it continues on the same path.

Senior: To me the admission that Umno Youth is a pressure group is eye opening.

ACR: Perhaps what you are saying is true, Khairy. But you should know that Umno members are high on talk (demagoguery), pomp and show. Which other political party on earth has its AGM over a period of one week, makes countless resolutions on Malays supremacy and yet does not take stock of the previous year's resolutions and whether those were achieved?

It is a big talk shop, venting and fuming as if this nation is at war.
