Can Paul Low be Umno president?

YOURSAY 'Why is the BN regime and all its useless NGOs so frighten of DAP? Is it because DAP is transparent and not corrupt?'

Malay NGO: Still no 'original Malays' in new CEC line-up

your sayQuigonbond: I'm not certain if the people from Penang Malay Congress are aware of the sheer stupidity of their statements and how far they have strayed from universal human values.

Why Malay supremacy? Why should history start with Malay sultanate? Parameswara wasn't even Malay nor Muslim. It's already been proven all our ancestors come from the African continent. We're all humans and there shouldn't even be legal divisions between Indian Chinese or Malay in this country.

Second, it's already been proven in Singapore and elsewhere that affirmative action only works on needs basis and not race basis. So ultimately if the Penang Malay Congress is asking for easy contracts and easy money, they are doing the Malays disservice and should be soundly rejected by all right-thinking hardworking Malays out there.

Third, so what if there's only one Malay in DAP's central executive committee (CEC)? DAP is not pretending to suddenly become Umno.

Fourth, Dr Mahathir Mohamad is not pure Malay either and I didn't see the Penang Malay Congress leaders make any noise back then when he was in power.

It will serve Malays better if the Penang Malay Congress start asking hard-hitting questions why we're reimposing ISA (Internal Security Act), why crime rate is at one time only perceived to be high but now after elections turned to dangerous levels, and why there remains no asset declaration by those in power.

They should also ask why Bangladeshis are allowed to vote and won't that disenfranchise Malays as well. Please make yourselves useful instead of barking up the wrong tree.

Pimai2tangtu: All Malaysiakini readers should take note that former DAP leader Rahmad Isahak has the ulterior motive to be picked by DAP as a candidate in last general election.

Before he joined DAP in 2012 he had spoken in support of DAP but insist DAP should have more Malay assemblypersons. In the last general election, he contested as an independent in Batu Maung against PKR candidate. He got 78 votes and lost his deposit. He was sacked by DAP for that.

Meanwhile Zulkifli Mohd Noor was not re-elected as Penang municipal councillor. So these are sour grapes bend to disparage and revenge for not getting what they want.

Multi Racial: People who are committed to find fault will always find faults. Penang Malay Congress president Rahmad is one classic example. He and his congress already decided to object regardless of the outcome of DAP CEC election.

If he is sincere with his objection then I would like to know why is he or his Penang Malay Congress did not object to Mahathir and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi when they offer themselves to run for a seat in the Umno supreme council, not mentioning both eventually became party president. And both are no pure Malay.

Mahathir as all know was son to an Indian Muslim from Kerala and Abdullah's maternal grandfather was a Hainanese and paternal grandfather was an Arab.

Assume those were history, I want to know why Rahmad is not objecting to Mukhriz Mahathir offering himself as vice-president of Umno?

Chee Hoe Siew: How is it that DAP must have Malay in CEC to be able to show it represents the Malay? Rahmad should go and ask around Penang and check with his own race.

The most important thing is that DAP adopt a fair and just governance and from the feedback on ground level, it has achieved so.

Anonymous #92005027: Who are these few idiots? Anything to do with them with regards to DAP matters? They cannot even be a delegate for Umno, why talk so much? Can Paul Low be Umno president?

Homesick: Why is the BN regime and all its useless NGOs so frighten of DAP? Is it because DAP is transparent and not corrupt and doing things for the rakyat and country and not enriching themselves.

I think so, as can be seen how well Penang is run after just over a term by DAP.

Awakened: Rahmad, who are you when you said you are not satisfied with the DAP election result? Are you a DAP member?

Can a Chinese NGO make a press statement that it is not satisfied no Chinese and Indian was elected in Umno election? Can an Indian NGO or any other organisation question why Khairy Jamaluddin was not elected as Umno Youth leader or Mukhriz Mahathir not elected as vice-president after the Umno election. It is none of their business.

The last DAP election was carried out with the help of external auditor and done democratically by following the procedures.

It is none of your business how the 1,700 delegates want to choose their CEC leaders. Please learn to respect the delegates' decision.

Disgusted: Racists are not wanted in DAP. DAP is not a Malay or Chinese or Indian or Sabahan or Sarawakian or Orang Asal party. It is a Malaysian party unlike racist parties in BN.

Anyone can join and seek positions in the party if they can get the broad support. If they don't subscribe to the party's multiracial, multi-religious principles then, they can get lost and join BN's racist parties.

Absalom: I wonder when our people in this country will get rid of the notion that only the Malays can and will take care of the interest of the Malays, and the Chinese and Indians must take care of the interest of their races respectively.

Fifty-six years of independence has not taught our ruling party politicians anything and they remain as immature as ever.

Boiling Mud: The continuous bone-picking from various parties outside the DAP on Malay candidacy in the CEC line-up only shows how deeply entrenched racial (read as "Malay") politic is and how perversely it has poisoned the mind of a certain segment of the society.

It is meritocracy that puts capable people in the new DAP CEC line-up. Being a candidate from a certain ethnic group is not a ticket to a seat. Haven't they got it into their thick numb skulls?!

Myop101: I don't care which race is leading DAP. All I want to see is a party that champions need-based affirmative action be accorded to the poor, disables, widows, orphans and such that truly need help to lift themselves from poverty and injustice.

You can get the purest Malay to lead for all I care but if in the end only the elites benefit from any form of help, then what is the point? Is it so wonderful to be the purest Malay to see the poor and needy die in vain?

Look at our Gini coefficient (disparity between rich and poor) at end of 2012 which is 0.431 - one of the highest in Asia. What has the New Economic Policy (NEP) done to address this? Very little. Thailand (0.4) and Indonesia (0.37) seems to manage fine without our form of NEP.

Doesn't it mean there is something very wrong with the implementation of NEP which aims to address the large income gaps among the different communities in Malaysia?
