Still no payoff for Hindraf for betting on BN

YOURSAY 'At least Waythamoorthy, who is deputy minister in PM's Department, got his office. Yes, one Indian got what he wanted.'

Where's our allocations, Hindraf asks PM

your say Debojit Chowdhury: Persatuan Hindraf Malaysia must be kidding, right? First, they say 31 out of 32 points in the memorandum of understanding (MOU) they signed with BN have not been fulfilled. The rest of the world told them that would happen.

Second, they say the next round, Indians won't support BN. Indians didn't. Only Hindraf did.

Third, they say BN 'may' have failed the Indians. We say not 'may' but 'did' and Hindraf was naive to think otherwise.

At least Hindraf chief P Waythamoorthy, who is deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, got his office. Yes, one Indian got what he wanted.

ACR: I like this public embarrassment they are bringing on to the PM - after all Najib publicised his MOU signing to get Indian votes.

MIC begged quietly and got some crumbs thrown for being a good beggar for 40 years. Now Hindraf is playing Umno's game - get an NGO pressure group to work on the outside whilst its representative is in the government.

Umno's pressure groups are Perkasa, Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM), etc. Using them, Umno claims Malays lack this and that and require more and more assistance.

Let's see where this ends. So long as Hindraf is steadfast in producing its report card regularly, the public would be apprised of Najib's empty promises and GE14 would be very interesting.

Doc: Umno can tell Indians to 'balik kampung', let their children eat in shower rooms, shoot them up for target practice, not give money for Tamil schools for upkeep, deny top Indian students scholarships, deny them basic enmities like water and electricity, but Indians will keep voting for BN.

Bizkitz: I was a member of Hindraf when it was established but left a few years later. And the current members are so stupid in believing that Premier Najib Abdul Razak will fulfill the demands of the MOU. Indians fail to progress not because of others but because of themselves.

Aswathaama: Hindraf gave Pakatan Rakyat a chance in 2008 election. Hindraf is not willing to trust them again. If BN fulfils its promises, then we in Hindraf will make sure that in the next election, you get your two-thirds majority.

Amoker: It's interesting to see Waythamoorthy keeping quiet after getting scolded by Najib and using a Penang nobody to make demands.

He said that Pakatan's offer to resolve the Indian stateless issue in one month after GE was too slow. Now after four months, nothing has happened and Najib refuses to meet Hindraf.

Awakened: After Najib told Waytha to toe the line, you can feel Waytha's silence. Waytha has to use N Ganesan and other Hindraf leaders to question Najib because he knows that he has been warned.

If he questions Najib, he will be out knowing well that Najib is fighting for his survival in the coming Umno Assembly.

Real Truth: Well, our PM has a habit of hoodwinking everyone - in the presence of a Malay audience he is Malay first and his 1Malaysia is second. In front of an Indian audience, he will play to the gallery by promising that all are equal under his 1Malaysia.

When in New York, he will preach about corruption to the Americans and the world, and in the United Nations he will preach moderation in all religions. But here, he will encourage racist groups Perkasa and Perkida.

So in hindsight it would be better for Indians to fend for themselves, rather than hoping for any substantial help from Najib.

Odin: It is obvious that Najib is totally untrustworthy. The GE13 is over; he is the PM. As far as he is concerned, the Indians, Chinese and all non-Muslims are unworthy of any consideration; they are as good as non-existent.

My humble suggestion is for Hindraf to think of a way to get what it wants.

Rupert Jason: When Hindraf spoke against the oppressed Indians, the elite non-Malays were quiet.

When they demonstrated against the government, they were accused of being anti-national. Then they were accused of being a terrorist organisation, extremist, racist, divided, fragmented, of betraying their community; and the list goes on.

However, the very people Hindraf represents are still behind them. They have trust and hope in Hindraf. Only time will show if it will be able to pull through.

Seng Low: Nothing is lost for Hindraf and the Indian community. The Indian community needs a good and credible organisation to lead them and Hindraf has been doing a good job.

At least, it is being honest and is keeping the public updated on their progress unlike other politicians. Just soldier on Hindraf and ignore the critics.

Rahman Putih: Some say they will never learn that is why it is easy for the Malays to keep leading the Indians by the nose. Well, remember one thing - it is easy for the Indian elites to keep talking and criticising Hindraf for everything they do.

But the elite Indians will never admit that it was Hindraf that brought political consciousness amongst the downtrodden as well as the Malaysian public in general. Pre-2007, people would not dare oppose the government, but Hindraf led the way.

Working together with BN may be their strategy, the success of which is yet to be seen. Give them some time.

Lokaikai: Why ask the PM? They should ask Waytha himself. Isn't he the one who led them there?

MockingYou: By denying Hindraf, Najib will lose more than just the Indian votes. Say 'no' to race-based politics. Need-based affirmative actions for the marginalised and the Orang Asli/Asal, please.

Robert Lim: Najib has to remind himself how he lost the Chinese votes forever. He has to decide sooner than later if he needs the Indian vote. MIC and PPP are goners in BN. If he shortchanges Hindraf, then he might as well forget about the Indian voters forever.

SS Dhaliwal: Instead of providing a report card showing red marks for the next few years, Waytha should now focus on restoring a little of his credibility by declaring his assets and his wife's, just like Lim Guan Eng and his cabinet did, detailing all assets including all debts and liabilities prior to his departure to the United Kingdom up to now. In that way, he can let the people decide on his integrity.

If he is honest than he has nothing to hide, in fact he would gain a lot of political mileage if he is indeed clean. He is now a public figure who has a lot to answer for; this would be a step in the right direction towards restoring public faith in him.

If he is clean, then it would show that he is only a delusional politician banking on a one in a billion shot.

Jean Pierre: It is not premature to speculate on the fate that awaits Hindraf or Malaysians of Indian descent. Hindraf played a tactical game counting on the last vestige of humanity of devil's accomplices, and they lost.

The writing is on the wall. After the Prevention of Crime Act (PCA) is amended, their voice would be suppressed. By the next elections, the number of naturalised Muslim immigrants would be greater than the number of legitimate Indian Malaysians. Game over.

Apolitical Observer: The unit in the PM's Department is a cell to imprison Waytha.
