YOURSAY ‘ I t’s the 21st century. Time has come for the setting-up of an apolitical education council which should only focus on advancing a knowledge-based society.’
Muhyiddin not telling truth, say Chinese groups
Swipenter: I want my kid to be multilingual and proficient in Mandarin (preferably two Chinese dialects) Bahasa Malaysia and English.
That takes a lot of time and hard work on both my kid and parents, but I am positive it is worth it every second and every cent spend to reach that goal for her.
But definitely I don’t want a lying education minister. Those who want their kids to be proficient in only one language and have a smattering command of other important languages in areas of commerce and knowledge, good luck to them.
Changenow: It’s the 21st century. Time has come for the setting-up of an apolitical education council which should only focus on advancing a knowledge-based society and economy.
When politicians cannot guarantee the next meal for a child, they are automatically disqualified in the administration of the education system of a nation.
Politicians will always manipulate education for their own political mileage. This would be disastrous for the children. With a proper education system in place, the Malays would not need the NEP (New Economic Policy) crutch.
Haveagreatday: Why dispute the 30 minutes when it is meant to improve the language skill of the pupils?
I have followed the developments in this issue in the online English media so I must say that until now I can't fathom the opposition.
Yes, pupils in vernacular schools are burdened with three languages but that comes with the terrain. You can't have the cake and eat it as well.
It means more school hours, yes, granted what we know about the infrastructure constraints in the vernacular schools, this can be a problem as most of the Chinese primary schools are two sessions. But is this it?
Anonymous_5fb: It's most ridiculous for DPM to tell lies in open, in broad daylight with his eyes wide open. Imagine vernacular schools, especially Chinese schools, are already so much burdened and pressurised with unnecessary clocked in hours, not just in Bahasa Melayu, but other subjects and co-curriculum as well, all because of the requirement of Education Department, which don't even care on the welfare of our little students.
Many of them have to study until 3.30pm, and this crazy DPM, who is also education minister, wants to squeze in more hours into their timetable. Simply ridiculous. They know nothing about quality education in the first place.
Thana55: It is not about whether it is 210mins or additional 60mins. It is the 'lying' that is concerning.
Anyway I am not a supporter of vernacular schools. All Malaysians must go thru the standard school system from a national unity perspective.
The focus should be on making national schools world class such that vernacular schools become redundant.
Pemerhati: For the top Education Ministry officials, lying has become a habit. For instance, for the past several years they have been blatantly lying and claiming that admissions to local public universities are based on merit.
They have the cheek and audacity to equate the very much tougher STPM examination with the non-standardised and much simpler Matrikulasi examination.
It is glaringly obvious that the Matrikulasi examination is specifically designed to fill the universities with a large number of sub-standard students and turn them into half-past-six graduates and professionals.
It is strange that these ministers and top officials do not feel ashamed or embarrassed when telling such obvious lies.
Fernz: What about the Umno government's habit of fiddling with public examination marks under state secrecy laws to hand out free degrees to even morons in the critical disciplines.
Mahathir was the architect of this policy. He drew on his own experience of being allowed by the British to enter the Medical Faculty of the University of Malaya in Singapore although he didn't meet the required minimum standards.
Five "Malay" students, all of whom did not meet the required minimum standards, were allowed to enter the university. Of the five, Mahathir had the worst marks.
Anonymous #25595435: The standard of English in Malaysia has hit rock bottom. Every time I watch someone speak English on TV, I literally shudder. A lot of them can't even make a proper sentence.
With every new education minister, the standard of English keeps dropping. In most companies, only the older staff who sat for MCE are able to communicate decently in English.
If you ask the younger staff to write in English, you will get a whole piece of useless material requiring a lot of correction. Muhyiddin is the least suitable person to hold the position of education minister.
Born Free: Muhyiddin not telling the truth, say Chinese groups. Too polite perhaps. The hard version is: "You are a liar".
