YOURSAY 'Can you imagine police officers 'interviewing' students but didn't take official statements from the them and claiming they didn't harass the students.'
OCPD: Yes, we quizzed kids but didn't harass them
Absalom: Before the police can even 'talk' to the pupils, they must have sought permission from the HM (headmaster), who should have immediately informed the parents and waited until a parent or guardian has come before any interview with the child can take place.
To me, it's not so much the police who are wrong here, they just go about getting their job done, sometimes callously. But the HM, in whom parents put so much trust as to hand over the children to be under his charge, should be ashamed of himself.
Taking the first incident of kids eating in the changing room and now this, one can safely conclude that he lacks the qualities to even work in a school, let alone be a HM.
Ferdtan: Sungai Buloh police chief Junaidi Bujang, a man needs a good memory to be an effective liar. Yesterday, you said you did not ask any of your officers to interrogate the children.
Obviously, indignant at the questioning from Malaysiakini , you even went on to say, "In any case, what would the children know?"
But now you said you had been misunderstood. Was the about-turn came after several brave parents at a press conference accused you of lying? Did you say that the police officers in uniform did not interrogate the seven and eight-year-old children; they were only talking with them?
Have you heard of the children's story of a boy who cry wolf? With so frequent half-truths, and in some cases blatant lies from the police, even if they were to tell the truth on some occasions, Malaysians will not believe them anymore. The credibility of the police force is zero.
Whatsup: Every time I read stupid remarks by PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) or any other government machinery under Umno's control, my blood boils.
Can you imagine police officers 'interviewing' students but didn't take official statements from the them and claiming they didn't harass the students. What kind of idiot do we have here?
This is an outright scare tactic, a harassment of children, who must have been so frightened and traumatised by these police officers that they will likely keep their mouth shut on this matter and suffer in silence - which is likely the purpose of the so-called interviews.
Were there any counsellors there? Their parents? Come on PDRM, you should know better. The principal is the culprit, go harass him, or even the MOE (Education Ministry) and those who have committed crimes while holding powerful positions.
Scared? It seems bullying powerless rakyat and now children is your forte. While you were harassing these kids, who's going after the real criminals?
CHKS: OCPD, "harrass" can be very subjective. Who are you to decide whether you have "harassed" the kids or not? You may say no, but if the kid said "yes, you did", you think you can defend yourself?
JustAMalaysian: I see this "eating in the changing room" thing as an administrative issue involving the school, the parents of the pupils, the PIBG (Parents and Teachers Association) and Education Department (district/state as well as federal level).
If the police are to probe the case, there had to be an offence or crime allegedly committed. Did they start the investigation due to instigation by some NGOs?
Why must people criminalise a simple administrative issue? Is it for some political agenda or something sinister? Simply put, the police should never have got involved in the first place.
Ian2003: There is no difference in the eye of a child whether he or she is being questioned or being interrogated.
The fact that a police officer speak to them is very intimidating, which brings to the question why the parents were not being inform and now a number of these children are traumatised.
BangunlahMalaysia: Initially, he denied 'talking' to the children. Now he says he 'quizzed' the children. Which is which, Junaidi?
He has done severe harm to the credibility of the police force. He has erred terribly by quizzing the kids in the absence of parents. Transfer him to Ninkampoo!
Anonymous..66: The headmaster should have set aside his ego and apologised; and pledge not to let this happen again. I believe the parents are humble enough to forgive him.
But the damage is done, the headmaster can't even admit his mistakes, thus showing bad leadership to his teachers and students.
Bash: These kids would be terrified. The interviews should have been done in the presence of their parents. Pronto.
Slumdog: If there has been any doubt that Malaysia has become a police state, this incident will dispel all doubts. Why are the police involved in a matter that is between the parents, the school and the Education Department?
After his denials, spin and when finally trapped in a corner, OCPD Junaidi Bujang finally admitted that police did "talk" to the children. This is illegal, an act of intimidation and an attempt to unnecessarily harass their parents.
So Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, what action are you going to take against this lying district police chief and for questioning the children without the presence of their parents?
I think I know the answer - nothing. And in accordance with Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's standard operating procedure on matters that effect his department, he is eerily silent .
He should be castigating the police for getting involved in an Education Department matter.
Factnot Fiction: Police does not need to make special effort to intimidate the children - just wear your uniform and the children would be frightened.
Ruhaizan Muhd Fikri: This is the first country where the interest of the children is not looked into but the interest of the school and their political masters are taken care of. What a shame. That is why 51 percent of Malaysians voted for the opposition.
Lim Chong Leong: Yesterday they did not question the children, today they did but did not interrogate. Tomorrow, they will say they interrogated but did not arrest.
The day after, the children would have been arrested and cautioned statement taken. On the fourth day, what? Torture and then water found in the lungs? Why can't the PDRM even tell us the truth from day one?
