YOURSAY 'The court verdict comes as no surprise to anyone as the 'questions' raised by the judges have been the public's talking point over the years.'
Suaram shocked by verdict, urges fresh probe
Mohamad Abdul Malik: Well, it does look like a fresh probe is needed after the Court of Appeal's decision to free two police officers of the charge of murdering Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.
This comes as no surprise to anyone as the 'questions' raised by the presiding judges have been the public's talking point over the years. Now the judgment leaves more questions than answers.
Headhunters: An ordinary person could have investigated and prosecuted this murder case much, much better than the police investigation officer and the public prosecutors.
During the trial in the High Court, it was clear that the police had not professionally investigated this case and the prosecutors also had not called all the relevant witnesses, which are matters so basic and elementary in procedures.
The prosecutors are usually a very experienced lot, but suddenly in this case, they simply left too many holes so the chain of evidence as pointed out by the Court of Appeal judges were not secured.
The proper recourse now is to investigate this murder case afresh. But will the attorney-general (AG) and the inspector-general of police (IGP) do it, and will the PM or the government support the reopening of the case?
That's the RM500 million question as opposed to the RM500 million Scorpene ‘administration fee'.
Avatar 111: Wow, this is a simple way of disposing a material case by using the judiciary system in our Bolehland.
First shabbily put up a charge and get the judge to decide some verdict, and wait for the higher court to throw out the case and close it for good.
Apa Ini: It looks like the judge in the original trial had failed every step of the way. He needs to be condemned and the courts need to readdress the case in order to establish its credence.
We the rakyat need to believe in the courts again, and so we must insist that the case be reopened and a fresh trial be conducted. This calls for a rally by Suaram and all those who want better from our courts and judges.
Tehachapi: To me, this has irrefutably proven one point - that is, in Malaysia if you are blessed with enough power, political influence and lots of money, you have endless possibilities.
Nothing is impossible in this Bolehland, including murder. What crime? There is no crime in Bolehland. If you see one, it is your fault and accept it as your eyes playing tricks on you.
After all, why be bothered and be concerned about the painless murder of a foreign woman unrelated to you and me or anyone of us?
Yes, she died, but people die everyday and she happened to be unlucky to get herself killed.
Still Thinking Of A Nickname: The judge did not say the two ex-police officers are innocent. The court freed them on technical grounds. It is the police and the prosecutors who set up a drama for all of us to watch.
Old Timer: Nothing is shocking anymore in Malaysia. Murderers go scot-free, corruption is rife. Apa lagi Malaysia mahu ?
Karpal to call PM and ex-aide in Altantuya civil suit
Headhunters: Definitely, the court in the civil suit over the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya will ask Bukit Gelugor MP and lawyer Karpal Singh: What is the relevance of PM Najib Razak or his evidence to the civil suit?
Whatever it is Karpal, not only Altantuya's family but the whole of Mongolia, Malaysia and the world hope you will argue this civil suit with all your might so that the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, will be unearthed.
Haveagreatday: I do not agree with Karpal that the prosecution of the murder case was not up to the mark.
Those involved have been instructed to perform as required. The idea is that there'll be legal loopholes for the defence to use so that at the end of the day, all accused get away scot-free.
But it's good to know that the civil suit will be in good hands. Yet I wonder if it'll ever get to the trial stage.
Casey919: The civil suit may have to wait until the prosecution's appeal against the acquittal is decided by the Federal Court - that is the name of the game. This delay creates endless possibilities.
Lotus23: The gaping loophole created by the prosecution by not calling star witness Najib's former aide de camp DSP Musa Safri yielded the desired result today. With such strategic engineering, how are we not to call this a ‘sandiwara'?
Can we incorporate this strategy into the curriculum of our local CLP (Certificate in Legal Practice) course now that we have rebranded Malaysia a land of endless possibilities?
