VOXPOP 'Where in the world, except in Malaysia, do we find the police not disclosing the identity of a murder suspect? Is there an ulterior motive behind this?'
Fugitive cop in Dhamendran's death finally revealed
Whatsup: Wait a minute. The rakyat smelled a rat - again. It took so long for the police to reveal the identity of the suspect of N Dhamendran's murder and even longer to apprehend him, and he turned out to be another Indian.
Unbelievable that yet another Indian is responsible. Anyone keeping count of the number of Indian scapegoats being made to take the rap? One too many to be believable. This is another hallmark of Umno's script.
Cala: The Third World method of brutalising a suspect must stop.
The police may have released the name of the fourth suspect (inspector Hare Krishnan K Subramaniam) involved in the sudden death of Dhamendran while in police custody on May 21, 2013, but by the long delay has done an irreparable damage to its reputation, undermined its professionalism, and worse, questioned its ability to uphold law as it should be.
By going into hiding, Hare Krishnan is guilty of playing a part in Dhamendran's death. If not, why run away in the first place?
An Old Malaysian: Somehow my inner feelings is that something very fishy is cooked up by the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) top officers to cover up or protect someone important involved in the murder.
Where in the world, except in Malaysia, do we find the police not disclosing the identity of a murder suspect? The question we need to ask is why did they want to hide the identity of the murder suspect? Is there an ulterior motive behind this?
Raja Chulan: I just hope that Hare Krishnan is not a fictitious person who would never be found anywhere in this world. All blame can then be placed on him.
The three others charged in court can also blame everything on Hare Krishnan instead, and the accused acquitted. The government and police have done their job. Story closed? Hope not.
Heavenly King: Police can release the photo or photofit of a suspect within hours, but they took one whole month to release the photo of one of their own. Why? Hiding something or giving the fugitive time to run further?
Lim Chong Leong: Why were the suspected murderers not arrested immediately upon the death being discovered, but instead the whole police force tried to cover it up by misleading reports like death due to breathing difficulties and debating on whether they ought to be suspended but were only transferred to desk jobs?
The IGP (inspector-general of police) and the 'kaki pukul' home minister (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) must answer.
Dr Suresh Kumar: They say the rot starts from the head. Therefore, the bosses should be totally responsible for the actions of their subordinates; they cannot be exonerated although they may not have instructed the lower-ranking officers to 'murder' suspects in custody.
Lay charges against the boss of these murderers of the late Darmendran as a lesson to others. They should be reminded that we live in a civil society.
Wira: Finally, and about time.
KJ urges Wisma Putra to censure Vatican envoy
FellowMalaysian: Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ) considered Archbishop Joseph Marino's support of the word 'Allah' being used in the Bible as a matter of interference.
KJ may be one of the more erudite leaders Umno can claim to their credit, but his sense and perception of freedom in religious beliefs and practices is sorely lacking.
The archbishop's espousal should be respected and not condemned much as how the leaders as well as the people of this country should openly receive any calls from foreign respected religious bodies denouncing or objecting to the archbishop's view.
After all, we all aspire to become a great democratic nation one day and we should start by respecting democratic principles.
Pemerhati: Umno elections are coming and many of those standing for elections, like Khairy, are already campaigning. Some of those standing for elections, including Khairy, are heavily tainted with corruption and possibly other crimes.
But surprisingly the Umno delegates in the past have kept on electing such characters as long as they show by their statements that they are the champions of the race and religion.
Khairy, by making statements like "The majority of Muslims in the country have disagreed with (the judgment) and have requested for the court to review its decision", hopes to do just that.
Vijay47: Here we have a young upstart trying to show himself to be a religious leader when religion and culture are the last attributes he is acquainted with.
Yet while I definitely do not accept the sanctimonious hypocritical trash he is spewing, I can understand that these are about the only things political garbage like Khairy are accustomed to.
My bigger concern and greater regret is the abysmal silence from the Christian members of both sides of Parliament. It is this constant restraint, this always turning of the other cheek that prompts opportunists and out and out fanatics to continue with their insults and threats.
In fact, not just Christian MPs but the others also should speak out and condemn the statements made by Umno. Yes, the Bible does speak of patience and forbearance yet it also calls for an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth when the moment demands.
I am not at all suggesting that anyone should offend or insult another faith. But at least censure those who do so.
Sali Tambap: KJ, the seemingly moderate and perhaps a voice of reason in Umno, has surely succumbed to the appeal of politics in this issue. One could say he is toeing the party's line seeing that some Umno ministers and their proxies were already voicing their opinion on this.
What is obviously sad and unnecessary is for Umno to unashamedly choose to use this Allah issue to exploit the simple mind of good Muslims, knowing how it could easily inflame, rightly or wrongly.
Thus KJ, for some of his endeared quality to the non-Muslims before, has fallen into the main current of Umno desperation in political strategy. KJ should quit Umno. You are better suited in the Pakatan.
Being in Umno you will go down to the dog and you will be reduced to the level of nincompoops like Muhyiddin Yassin, Shahidan Kassim and Ibrahim Ali.
Geronimo: Khairy, please get this into your Oxbridge brain. You people think that you are the only group of people who are sensitive as far as religion is concerned. We, Christians, have feelings too.
The 'persecution' on our community has been going on for some time now, but we take it in our stride as we have been taught to 'love our enemies'. On top of that, as Chinese, we follow the moral of 'yan' (to endure), and we have been enduring this kind of persecution meted out on us by Umno for a long time now.
While the 'persecution' has been going on, the Catholic and Christian leaders in your government chose to keep silent when we need them most. Now when a church leader says something in support of his flock which is already common knowledge, the 'persecution' resumes in great earnest.
Now, with the hounds set on us, do you think the court will decide fairly? Still wonder why we don't vote for you?
Jeremy Ng: The archbishop as representative of the Vatican has every right to state his views on Christianity. More so, he is just concurring with local court's judgment.
I do not see him as interfering in our country's affairs. Whatever court appeal that is taking place is totally a separate matter.
Guyintheglass: Sending a protest note is the right of the government and it is more reasonable than the call by some quarters for the apostolic nuncio to be expelled because he has not broken any laws by stating his opinion.
The best the government can do is to request the Vatican to make a change but we certainly cannot determine who we want as the ambassador from any country.
Lim Chong Leong: KJ, our PM going to Palestine via Egypt can be construed as interference.
The Vatican representative merely stated his opinion, which is shared by most Malaysians anyway, including the High Court.
