No immunity, even for the home minister

YOURSAY 'Thanks to Mat Zain for the clear explanation as to why Ahmad Zahid should be committed to prison for his gangster-like behaviour.'

Ex-top cop asks AG why isn't Zahid charged yet?

your say Cala: Mat Zain Ibrahim, former chief of the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department, is correct to highlight the discrepancy on the issue of equal protection of law.

Why should Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi be let off the hook when former IGP (inspector-general of police) Abdul Rahim Noor was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code with assaulting then deputy PM Anwar Ibrahim back in 1997?

As minister, Zahid does not have immunity. He should face the law - the same set of laws as every one of us is facing.

Pemerhati: Mat Zain is spot on and gives an excellent analogy by comparing the case with the Anwar assault case.

To understand the lack of action in the Zahid case, you have to refer to the Altantuya Shaariibuu case which showed that the BN-controlled police, attorney-general (AG) and the judiciary did not follow the correct procedures and the law, and went all out to protect the Umno minister who was strongly suspected of being involved in the cover-up of Altantuya's murder.

The harsh and sad reality is that under the Umno-controlled government, some Umno-BN politicians and their enforcement agency lackeys (e.g. the killers of Teoh Beng Hock, A Kugan, etc) are above the law. They can commit any crime they like and no one can touch them.

Gods Messenger: My salute to Mat Zain for exposing this matter. The law applies for all citizens.

Even of late, members of the royalty were charged. Judge Zamri Bakar sentenced Tunku Nick Tazuddin Izwan Syah Tunku Qadir, 28 after finding him guilty of voluntarily causing hurt to Muhammad Farkhan.

Tunku Nick was found guilty of committing the offence under section 325 of the Penal Code. So, is the AG waiting for an RCI before he is to take action. The home minister is just another ordinary citizen. Why the double standards?

Kingfisher: Well said, Mat Zain. Many Malaysians will continue to wait for the AG to institute criminal charges against Zahid. The AG has a sworn responsibility to uphold the integrity of his post.

Anonymous SamRaju: Zahid is no greater than any ordinary citizen in this country. The police should arrest him and the AG should charge him for causing grievous injuries to another man.

PM Najib Razak should order that Zahid be charged or else this will become an issue in the upcoming Umno general assembly.

Thanks to Mat Zain for the clear explanation as to why Zahid should be committed to prison for his gangster-like behaviour.

Haveagreatday: Thanks to Mat Zain for continuing to point out the hypocrisy and inconsistencies of the Umnoputras as far as enforcement of the law is concerned.

It matters not that there will be no response. That is the norm for the Umnoputras when they are caught with their pants down.

Hearty Malaysian: The current AG should resign if he is unwilling to charge Zahid for assaulting people. The people has the right to see justice done and the AG has failed many times over.

Dont Just Talk: Mat Zain is a rare gem in the police force and someone who has the courage to speak the truth when it matters most.

Why is Zahid not charged for criminal assault when the evidence is so obvious and why was he appointed a minister before he could clear his name?

To make the matter worse, he now holds the home minister's post, which makes a mockery of Najib's transformation plan.

Odin: Mat Zain has previously made very serious allegations against the AG and a few others.

Till now, none of the defamed has filed even a one-ringgit suit against Mat Zain. That being the case, it would be futile to expect the AG to treat Zahid's assault case as a criminal one rather than a civil one.

As we all know, some of the laws in Malaysia do not apply to the Umno Baru leaders and their filthy toadies like the AG, and that these men interpret laws to suit themselves.

Onyourtoes: Mat Zain, in this handicapped country, criminal charges are for opposition members and nobodies. You may institute civil cases against certain VIPs, but soon enough those civil cases will also be reduced to nothingness.

Fundamentally, this is who we are - a third world fake democracy where double standards are not only practised but blatantly and shamelessly hoisted for all to see.

A legalised thug will make sure that an illegal action is made legal and a legal action is made illegal.

Abasir: If anyone studies the background and extra-curricular activities of this so-called 'minister', they will understand why we have what we have - a totally discredited leader with a penchant for the stuff biker gangs are known for.

Najib, being the desperate man that he is, has gambled his future by appointing this man who reportedly caused grievous hurt when he was a deputy minister.

The AG, who is also tainted indelibly by numerous indiscretions and acts amounting to facilitation of crime, is merely following Najib's rule: You help me, I help you.

Anonymous_5fb: To appoint Zahid as home minister, who was involved in this alleged assaulting case, is to me blatant arrogance on the part of Najib, if not sheer stupidity on his part. Najib cannot plead ignorant of this case, can he?

King: We have two sets of interpretations when it come to application of the law. One for me, one for you.
