Please don't make us 'eat egg', S'gor MCA tells voters

Nadarajan Rengasamy: There is a stark difference between politics of yesteryears and politics of today.

MCA is today begging for its survival, but I still remember a time when BN dared the people to vote opposition if they were not happy with BN.

I still remember a time when BN laughed at opposition politicians. And I still remember the time when Umno Youth used to threaten the non-Malays to shut up or get out.

Dear Selangor MCA chief Donald Lim Siang Chai, times have changed. This is what we call ‘people power'. We have subjected BN to a humbling process.

Starr: Given such a bleak assessment of MCA's strengths in Selangor, what has MCA president Chua Soi Lek got to shout about?

Indeed, Selangor MCA chief Lim overlooked one point - even the party fared badly in the 2008 general election.

Although the party was still well-represented in the cabinet, it was disproportionate to its performance in the election.

What does this tell us? It means that BN component parties such as MCA, MIC and Gerakan don't need to do well in elections, their positions in the cabinet are secure, provided that its senior partner Umno is returned to power.

It also reflects their role within BN as that of 'merely making up the numbers'.

Unspin: Lim, instead of begging for votes and making sweeping statements about MCA working hard to serve the Selangor people over the last five years, why don't you provide a detailed list of your accomplishments so that we can all judge for ourselves whether MCA deserves our votes or not?

Personally, I can only think of one ‘accomplishment' by MCA - that was Labis MP Chua Tee Yong persistently questioning the Talam settlement despite overwhelming facts that the Selangor government had handled the matter very well considering the legacy issues involving the company, all of which were caused by BN.

Swipenter: MCA has betrayed Malaysians, especially the Chinese community, due to its self-interests and greed for personal wealth and position. You are supposed to protect and ensure the rights of all Malaysians not be eroded by the hegemonic Umno.

You have no guts to face Umno as an equal and you just let the Chinese community be treated as ‘pendatang' (immigrants) and second-class citizens by the Umno-dominated government.

Worse still, you have become a ‘running dog' of the Umno, barking aimlessly. For that, you don't deserve any votes from the Chinese community. Same goes for Gerakan.

So go and eat eggs. We, the Chinese community, don't care if MCA survives or not. We just want a clean, transparent, responsible, fair and accountable government.

Anonymous #76965586: Whether MCA eats eggs or not is none of the rakyat's concern. As a member of BN which many rakyat want to get rid off, you are sure to lose support from every right-thinking citizen.

Intheair: Here we go again. Over the past 20 odd years, ever since party chief Ling Liong Sik, MCA has been trying to survive as a service-oriented organisation under the tyranny of Umno. It has no guts to stand up for the people it claimed to represent.

Honestly, if we needed service, we would have gotten a porter, waiter or a maid. We need an MP and an assemblyperson to defend and advance our interests and that of the nation in the state assembly or Parliament.

Don't you get it? Over the past five years, while you claimed to have been servicing the people, have you ever once stood up for us in the interests of the people of Malaysia?

I can't understand why MCA members still support a party which is subservient to Umno. They had better accept the fact that MCA is history.

Old timer: Not only does MCA deserve eggs, they deserve rotten eggs. They have done nothing for the Chinese while pretending to fight for the rights of the Chinese community. And the Chinese have lost so much, in every area.

Where in the world is there a country in which schools, colleges and universities are reserved for mainly one race, and whom are generally unqualified, yet still promoted, thus getting the best jobs?

Hold Awam Accountable: MCA only has to Google to find an infinite range of egg recipes - omelettes, soufflés, puddings, etc.

There's no point in saying that you don't want to eat eggs again. You must eat them, because you laid them.
