YOURSAY 'What Mahathir says about the Indonesians and Filipinos staying over 20-30 years in Sabah are just a fraction of those granted citizenship.'
'Pakistani and Indian citizens became instant Malaysians'
Jesse: A period of residency is required for naturalisation. Article 19(3) of the federal constitution states:
"The periods of residence in the federation ... required for the grant of a certificate of naturalisation are periods which amount in the aggregate to not less than 10 years in the 12 years immediately preceding the date of the application..."
How can public servants grant citizenship to those not meeting the residency requirement? This is fraud at a gigantic scale and a clear breach of the law.
Cala: If there is rule of law, there will be a set of rules and procedures as guide that shape our conduct.
Tellingly, former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad has deliberately made rule of law so weak that he can twist and turn as he wishes.
Knowing that it is illegal to grant instant citizenship to foreigners, he now has the audacity to say it is legal. This man has a criminal mind.
Pemerhati: Most other countries grant citizenship to foreigners if they are highly educated and/or possess special skills which are required by the country.
But Mahathir's sole criteria for granting MyKads and/or citizenship was that the foreigners must be Muslims who after becoming citizens will vote for BN and help to keep him in power and thus enable him and his cronies to steal hundreds of billions of the people's money.
Since the operations centre for the illegal activity was in Mahathir's political secretary's house, it is reasonable to conclude that Mahathir was the mastermind behind the whole operation.
It is noteworthy that so far the people who have done the dirty work for Mahathir have not squealed on him unlike the case of PM Najib Razakm where you have carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan revealing his crooked activities.
This is probably because Mahathir, unlike Najib, has kept the people who did his dirty work happy by giving what he had initially promised them.
Mahathir could have called himself a Malayalee but he chose to become a constitutional Malay because that was politically advantageous as it made him a member of the largest ethnic group.
During his 22 years of almost dictatorial premiership, he openly practiced racial and religious discrimination against non-Muslim Malaysians. In so doing, he endeared himself to the majority Malays and got their political support to stay in power.
The disgusted, discriminated and highly talented Malaysians migrated to other countries in droves and the quality of education, professional and public services plunged as the criteria for recruitment was based on race and religion and not on ability.
Thanks to the Internet, the native Malays should have by now wised up to the hundreds of billions of ringgit plundered by Mahathir, BN and their cronies and the fact that the unfair racist policies are bad for the country's future and its development.
Clever Voter: Now that we know the extent of the problems, solutions must be found to re-address the electoral problems. No wonder Bersih is such a threat to the government.
Technically speaking, the current government does not have the mandate from the people, and is therefore illegal.
Starr: There have been scores of such incidences happening in Sabah. Just go to the major towns to see queues of Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis holding MyKad and lining up for Malaysian passports, not knowing how to speak a single word in Bahasa Malaysia.
What Mahathir says about those Indonesians and southern Filipinos staying over 20-30 years in Sabah and speak fluent Bahasa are just a fraction of the total number of immigrants being granted citizenship.
Mahathir is definitely hiding something, Pakatan Rakyat owes it to the people of Sabah to get to the bottom of the matter. The Umno-BN government can't be relied upon to do the job as they are sole beneficiaries of such a scheme.
Najib was right in urging the people not to pre-empt the conclusion of the royal commission of inquiry (RCI). It may well come to nothing - all is done legally and within the law.
Hadi: My mother, who is an Indonesian, only got her IC after 18 years, and even then it was a red one. I think the reason is because we are not Muslim.
Jiminy Qrikert: Yes, by all means boot out Umno-BN. Vote Pakatan but don't make the mistake of voting PAS even though this Islamist party is part of the opposition coalition.
All the while, Mahathir-Umno-BN was flooding Malaysia with instant Malaysians, they were also increasing the population of Muslims. Is this simply about just citizenship or about the Islamisation of the country?
All those who got instant citizenship were Muslims. Since the majority of East Malaysians were non-Muslims at the time, there was therefore the need to dilute Christian/non-Muslim population with an influx of Muslims.
So, while Umno-BN conducted this clandestine operation to broaden their support base, they were also creating a significant Muslim bastion that suits very well the longer term objectives of PAS.
With Umno-BN kicked out of East Malaysia, if this comes to pass, which party will fill in the void for the Muslims? PKR?
But PKR does not have the same credentials as PAS since PKR is seen as a secular, not an Islamic party. PAS is a Muslim supremacist party.
Artchan: I was working in Brunei in 1990, and I met an Indian national and he showed me his blue IC (identity card) which he got for paying RM600. The revelations from this RCI doesn't amaze me.
Kgen: Why treat Chinese and Indians who are legitimate citizens as stateless just because of some missing documents and let them struggle for decades trying to get citizenship while uneducated foreigners are given citizenship on a platter?
What has MCA and MIC got to say about this?
Mushiro: The United States and Australia screen and take the best immigrants to contribute to nation building. Mahathir took the worst of immigrants who are 100 percent Muslims to vote for BN so that he can retain power illegally.
This traitor will go to any extent to retain power illegally.
