YOURSAY ‘Stop antagonising people with tear gas and chemical water, then there will be no panicking, and no one will be hurt.'
'More cops injured proportionately at Bersih 3.0'
Anonymous_3e79: ACP Jamaluddin Abdul Rahman is obviously of a small-minded group of people with small brains and of low intellect. How he ever got into his position is amazing.
All his testimony lack explanation on why violence was used by the police. We are not interested in his stand on Bersih. He is merely a public servant, and must answer in honesty.
Mushiro: Jamaluddin made a political speech on behalf of Umno, which should have been disallowed by the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam)at the public inquiry on Bersih 2.0. His accusations are without strong evidence and pointing fingers at Bersih.
Joker: Twelve police injured? Pray tell, how were they injured? Did they hurt their fists from all the punching?
And why only 24 members of the public were hurt? What about all those who inhaled tear gas and were drenched by chemical water?
Jiminy Qrikert: ACP Jamaluddin did not explain what and how the injuries were sustained by his 12 police personnel. To help put the perspective right, here are the details:
Nature of injuries: Sprained wrists, sprained ankles, slipped discs and fractured bones in the hands.
Reasons for injuries:
(i) sprained wrists - sustained through repeatedly punching the faces of the rallying people;
(ii) sprained ankles - resulted from direct kicks to various parts of bodies of the rallying people, and at least one case of attempting to kick down a moving motorcycle;
(iii) slipped discs primarily C3, C4 and C5 due to lifting heavy objects from the ground over the head onto the Black Maria (objects were confirmed to be battered protesters unable to move on their own); and; ,
(iv) fractured bones in both hands - this injury was confirmed in only one case of 12. The police officer in question was holding the collar of a protester when his short-sighted colleague, who is six inches shorter than him, whacked his hands with a baton by mistake baton.
Lim Chong Leong: Was ACP Jamaludin testifying on police brutality or our electoral system? He has no business talking about how fair our electoral system is or how fair the Bar Council's electoral system is.
That is a matter for the voters involved to decide. He cannot say that the Bar elections are unfair because the members of the Bar submit to it.
The rakyat believes that their national and state elections are unfair because they are subject to it.
It is not for the police to say which is fair and which is not. And then to beat them up if they did not agree with the cops.
Quigonbond: Let's say you have 10 robbers who have invaded a town of 100 people. And they all get bludgeoned by the town folk.
What the police is saying is just because only eight town folk are hurt for every one robber being hurt, it is disproportionate and the town folk are arrogant?
By right, police officers who refuse to abide by or are ignorant of the spirit of constitutional rights, should not complain when they harm others without proper justification and get hurt in the process.
It wasn't as if there was a mob of 300,000 people bent on destroying Dataran Merdeka. They just wanted to gather there, for heaven's sake.
If the police got hurt in the process as a result of abusing the crowd, I call it self-defence by the crowd, and the police had it coming.
No one is going to sit by idly while they get beaten, their civil rights being infringed.
Bumiasli: How confused can a guy get? Firstly, this is an inquiry and not a forum. ACP Jamaluddin should stick to the main purpose of the Suhakam public inquiry, but he deviated.
Surprisingly, he was not ticked off and he blamed everybody, but the police. His ratio of only 24 people getting hurt out of 50,000 is irrelevant.
The question here is why should anyone get hurt at a peaceful assembly?
What if one in his family of say, 10, died? Would that mean it's okay as it's only 10 percent death rate?
We cannot apply such logic in a situation like this. Nobody should get hurt and it's up to the police to ensure that.
Stop antagonising people with tear gas and chemical water, then there will be no scrambling, panic and no one will be hurt. Does the police force not know this?
Nadarajan Rengasamy: Any wise man or woman with sound legal training knows well that submissions to an inquiry must not be based on credulousness, guess work and conjecture.
The police, in particular, ACP Jamaluddin, is misguided and he must be made to understand that conjecture can certainly not take the place of truth.
Where is the proof that the rally was backed by foreign powers? His base desire, lust, cupidity and self-interest to impress his bosses in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) obstructs correct judgment and the finding thre truth.
The Bar Council will have to make the necessary application at the High Court to expunge the statement made by ACP Jamaluddin. Let's take this fight to the next level.
Anonymous$&@?: He is talking like the Umno-BN goons. Trying to justify the wrong they have done.
Are the rakyat just statistics for you? There should not be even one injury... it's the (PDRM) that started the violence, by the way.
Headhunter: What rubbish is he talking about? Is he saying that the police should have had 50,000 officers there to control the 50,000 crowd to make things even?
Adaotak: He should quickly become a politician instead, not like in this case, talking nonsense after almost a year when hard facts had been already engraved in the people's mind.
He had better be fast, as GE13 is coming up very soon. We, the rakyat, will show him the exit without a second thought.
Gen2indian: I was at the Bersih 3.0 rally and a carnival-like atmosphere prevailed. I truly felt proud and happy to be among like-minded people who cared so much for the country.
Yes, I came ‘armed' with salt and water. Everything was peaceful until 2.45pm, when the PDRM showed us their weapons!
