Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam said Pakatan Rakyat was making an issue out of his son's wedding, which set a national attendance record, out of spite and jealousy.

rustam ali silat group bersih 4 Speaking to reporters at a function at Ayer Keroh this afternoon, Mohd Ali (left) said the opposition were using the issue for political mileage but he was unperturbed by their actions.

"They are spiteful and have nothing else to do. Gasak dia oranglah (to heck with them). They can do what they want.

"Up to 130,000 people came to my (open) house, to the point it was recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records. What can I do?

"Luckily, it was just my son. If I marry again, more people will come," he quipped.

"They came because they support BN. But those who did not support BN also came."

Wedding 'sponsored' by state agencies

After news broke on Sunday that wedding function had attracted a mammoth crowd , eclispsing Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's recent Aidilfitri open house, Pakatan leaders had queried the funding for the event.

NONE PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar also alleged that a leaked Malacca State Development Corporation document had indicated that state government agencies were to sponsor the event.

Earlier today, Malacca Pakatan had lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for abuse of power and abuse of state funds for the wedding.

When asked to respond to Pakatan's challenge to declare the cost of the wedding function, Mohd Ali replied:

"I urged Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng to declare how much he spent on his wedding. How much did Mat Sabu spend? What about other chief ministers? Ask them to declare," he said.

Mohd Ali told The Star on Tuesday that the cost was close to RM600,000 .
