Teen apologises for stepping on PM's photo

Kopi O: Respect is earned, not given. Stepping on a person's portrait is an act of disrespect and insult, but it does not constitute a criminal offence.

There is no need for 19-year-old Ong Sing Yee to apologise to the public. If you were my daughter, I wouldn't even ask you to turn yourself in.

Let the police investigate, since they are so free while crimes are rampant. The last time I checked, they couldn't even get the pictures right in the so-called wanted list in Bersih 3.0 rally.

Even until today, they have failed to track down all the ‘yellow-shirters' on the list.

Malaysian Born: I hope that there is some explanation at some point regarding what it is she did that was seditious.

It can't be stepping on the picture of a politician, that would be ludicrous. So what is it that they took action on her for?

NewMalaysia: So what is the big deal? Everyone knows that the police have no case against her. If it really is sedition, she won't be released with just an apology.

Only the courts can determine if she is guilty or not, not the police. They have nothing to charge her with in court, this is just some intimidation tactics.

Conmen: The handcuffing of Ong reinforced the sentiments of the Chinese electorate once again to throw out the oppressive BN regime. The tragic death of Teoh Beng Hock (TBH) sparked the initial fire that enlightened us of the injustice and wretchedness of Umno repression.

In both instances, the good-for-nothing MCA did not even come forward to defend the defenceless. Where is MCA in this instance when Chinese pride and dignity in the face of Umno oppression is put to the test?

NewMalaysia: If I was her, I would have definitely told the police that I saw an online photo of Perkasa stepping on and burning Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's (LGE) picture, but nothing happen to them.

"So I thought it was alright to do the same. Furthermore, it was at night time, so I mistakenly thought Najib's photo was LGE's."

Disgusted: The BN government and police seem to be good at bullying youths only, like the Dataran Merdeka student protest incident, the prime minister's flag incident as well as a few other student demonstrations in Ipoh campus and such.

Yet there was no action against Umno protesters and their lackeys, especially Perkasa. How does BN expect the youth to vote at coming general election? They are going to teach BN a lesson via the only power they have against them, with their votes. You can bet on it.

Cloudnine: Are we living in a police state? Since when is stepping on somebody's photograph seditious?

Wira: Confucius says honourable people apologise after they make mistakes. It is good that Ms Ong apologised at a DAP press conference. That makes you doubly honourable. Unlike Umno, Pakatan Rakyat folks don't condone kurang ajar (insolent) behaviour.

Truth1: If Pakatan Rakyat is media savvy, they would be wise to blow up that photo of her in handcuffs, add in a catchy caption and spread it far and wide come the next GE.

Little Hantu: They have an entire police team guarding her, all armed with .38 pistols, and she is a petite 19-year-old girl who voluntarily surrendered herself, and yet they handcuffed her.
