Do you know this woman, MCA asks Guan Eng's wife

A BN assemblyperson's challenge to DAP's Kota Laksamana representative Betty Chew to clarify the transfer of a certain woman caused a stir today, the opening day of the current Malacca State Assembly sitting.

The incident took place when Gan Tian Loo (MCA-Duyong) called on Chew to answer questions related to the former staff of the office of her husband and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

However, Chew ( on Guan Eng's left ) refused to respond, despite being pressed several times by Gan.

"I just need to ask about this issue because many people asked me and told me to bring this into the assembly: Does the Kota Laksamana assemblyperson know this woman?" Gan asked, naming the woman.

"I believe many people want to know about this issue, including those from DAP, because many local blogs are running this issue," he said when posing the questions to Chew in the assembly.

'Repeat allegations outside,' Gan challenged

Chew refused to respond, but instead challenged Gan to repeat his allegations outside the assembly.

Nevertheless, Gan ( left ) pressed on, asking whether the woman (name withheld by Malaysiakini ) had worked in Lim’s office but later transferred to the World Heritage Office in Penang.

The situation became rowdy when several opposition members, including Khoo Poay Tiong (DAP-Ayer Keroh), Lim Jak Wong (DAP-Bachang), and Goh Leong San (DAP-Kesidang) stood up to object to the issue raised by Gan.

They said the matter had nothing to do with the issue being debated, which was to condemn the Bersih 3.0 rally that was held on April 28.

Later, when questioned by members of the media, Chew refused to comment on the allegation against her husband.

“I don’t want to comment on this issue. I don’t know anything about the allegation, but if reporters want to know, ask the representative who raised the issue to explain it,” she said.

She was also asked whether the issue was a false allegation meant to discredit her husband but she refused to comment, instead challenging Gan to make a press statement on his allegation.
