Umno Youth exco member Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has denounced the "minutes" of a meeting that allegedly took place among Umno leaders, government agencies and the police to manipulate student elections as "fake".

Instead, he accused the students who produced the document of being "pawns of the opposition".

"I have never seen the document in my life.

NONE "There are many weird things about the minutes. I think that it was falsified to create an issue," Tun Faisal ( right ) said.

He also said that he could not remember whether he attended such a meeting on Jan 25, 2012, but if there was one, it did not happen in the way presented in the minutes.

Anti-establishment student factions have accused Umno of organising an operation called ‘Opps 2020' to ensure that pro-establishment groups triumph in campus elections.

Student groups Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia and Pro Mahasiswa Nasional have produced a document containing "minutes" of a meeting that supposedly took place on that date at Akademi Kenegaraan in Kuala Lumpur to plan ‘Opps2020', in which Tun Faisal was named as among the attendees.

"Who verified the minutes?" he told Malaysiakini today.

"It is not stated, and that is very weird.

"Also, the hierarchy of the meeting is unrealistic. Irmohizam Ibrahim (the prime minister's special officer) would have no locus standi to chair the meeting," he said.

NONE He also pointed out although the document mentioned that campus elections should be delayed until April, they did not actually take place in that month.

Campus elections in Universiti Malaya and other universities were in fact postponed until September, much to the frustration of anti-establishment student groups.

Tun Faisal, who is also the chairpersonof the new media unit of Umno Youth, explained there was nothing wrong with the Higher Education Ministry coordinating campus elections, as doing so was "their responsibility".

He added it was also all right for Umno politicians to engage or advise university students.

"The important thing is that the spirit of engagement must be the aspiration of the students.

"I don't think the students who produced the minutes are acting according to their own desires. They are pawns of the opposition," Tun Faisal insisted.
