The Home Ministry has indeed received a letter from the lawyer of former Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Ramli Yusuff's lawyer in 2007, but it does not constitute any reason for the ministry to probe the ‘Copgate’ case now.

NONE Responding to questions from reporters on whether the Home Ministry will open a file on this case, since proof as demanded by the ministry has long been submitted, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein ( right ) said the ministry had already done the necessary.

He was referring to Malaysiakini ’s report today that a letter detailing the actions of the Attorney-General’s (AG) Chambers and Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) that led to the exposure of the identity of police informants who had helped in the arrest of Johor underworld figure Goh Cheng Poh aka Tengku Goh had been sent by Ramli's lawyer on Sept 17, 2007, to deputy internal security minister Johari Baharom.

“The matter is not new. A file has already been opened on this case, only that it has been revived again now. I have to see whether there are any new facts.

"If what is raised now is the same as the last time, and at the last time there was no action taken by the Home Ministry, why should I take a different move now?” he told a press conference in the Parliament lobby today.

It is also alleged that AG Abdul Gani Patail, then police chief Musa Hassan and 'Tengku Goh' were in cahoots behind the move.

Gani had allegedly used the ACA to gain access to the confidential files on the whistleblowers, hunted them down and forced them to change their statements to implicate the police officers by falsifying evidence.

After the informants had changed their statements, 'Tengku Goh' was released from restricted residence in Kelantan and allowed to return to Johor.

The police officers were all eventually acquitted, the last of them in mid-2011.

Hishammuddin had on Monday asked for proof of collusion when asked to comment on the Copgate case.

“Prove it, prove it. If they prove it, we can take action,” he had said.
