Huge crowd in Kedah portends well for Pakatan

YOURSAY 'Even by giving out cash and providing transport to ferry people, Umno can't even draw such a large crowd as Pakatan can.'

10,000 flock to Pakatan confab finale in Alor Setar

your say Docs: Wow, 10,000 crowd for a Pakatan Rakyat event in Kedah and that too to hear Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Mind you, no goodie bag or cash was given for the people to show up for the Pakatan rally, which is a norm for Umno to shore up a crowd.

Even by giving out cash and providing transport to ferry people, along with police protection for the participantsir people, Umno can't even draw such a large crowd as Pakatan can.

Sarawakian_3ff9: It must be a frightening sight for PM Najib Razak to see this type of crowd. And no inducement like money and freebies to attend the ceramah too.

The next general election is for Pakatan to lose. Let's hope from now on, all the parties within the grouping are able to show unity and inspire the rakyat to vote for them.

By that I mean Pakatan need to detail how they are going to govern the country and bring prosperity to every Malaysian.

Anwar already told us any corrupt member will be kicked out . That's surely a good start. We also want all the ill-gotten wealth to be returned to the rakyat and be used prudently for the benefit of all.

You can start with Abdul Taib Mahmud, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Najib Razak, Musa Aman, Mohd Khir Toyo, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Rafidah Aziz and their families.

That's at least RM10 billion taken from us there. Perhaps a lot more.

Raja Ahmad Tajuddin: I have always hope that one day, before I die, that Malaysia will have a two-party system.

Since the 12th GE, we can see signs of it coming. I certainly hope that the three parties in Pakatan can stay on track.

Wira: When was the last time Umno held a public ceramah attended by citizens from all races?

When was the last time any top MCA/MIC/Gerakan leader made a speech in a public rally together with Umno raising concern about Umno policies in front of a mainly Malay Umno crowd like what Karpal Singh did? See the difference?

Anonimous Z: I hope I am not pouring icy water. Yes, judging from the turnout on Saturday night, the political climate across the country seems to favour Pakatan. But several local Pakatan non-Malay grassroot leaders expressed concern that Kedah could be the exception to the rule.

Despite of the tens of thousands that completely filled the whole field in the stadium, only less than a couple of percent are non-Malays and most of them are Pakatan members from out of state. Not many of the regular PKR and DAP non-Malay members were in sight.

What is happening to the Kedah Pakatan own non-Malay supporters? We strongly suggest that the Pakatan supreme council should quickly do a post-mortem on why Kedah's non-Malays failed to turn out.

Gerard Samuel Vijayan: Even if Pakatan wins GE13, it will be with a small majority of between 10 to 20 seats.

The choice of PM will then be decided based on the results and whether certain BN MPs or parties from Sabah and Sarawak are willing to jump to Pakatan or support it in Parliament so as to consolidate Pakatan's hold on power at the federal level.

The BN is got going to hand over power gracefully and exit the scene after 55 years of unrivalled supremacy and dominance. It will try to bribe, threaten and intimidate MPs to cross over to them.

To allay the concerns of the Malay rulers, the civil servants, the army and police, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah will have to be invited to be PM for one term with Anwar as deputy PM.

This will give Anwar time to sort out his image issues and rebuild his trust with the Malay voters, especially in the rural areas and give them the confidence to support Pakatan and be assured that Malay rights, Islam and the monarchy will be protected and defended by the Pakatan government.

Ferdtan: With thousands attending the Pakatan rally on Saturday's night, shouldn't this be newsworthy?

However, we see nothing in the MCA-owned The Star . Never again our press be controlled when Pakatan comes to power. There should be a freedom of press.

Anyone who is interested can have the permit to operate a print media, even the Umno-linked companies. That way everyone can have their say, no matter how partisan they are.

Then again only the credible news media can survive when much informed rakyat buy and support them.

Podeh: Whatever Anwar's past and his dealings in Umno then should be put aside for now and he be given the benefit of doubt. The opposition should know its priority.

First, kick out Umno-BN as the government, then try and steer the country back to health. The last thing Pakatan needs now is internal infighting.

As the country moves ahead, Anwar is not going to be the only leader, the other younger and more visionary ones will come forward.

There must be leadership renewals; otherwise we'll just be like what we have been for the past 54 years.
