Selangor PAS Youth has endorsed its state party commissioner Dr Abdul Rani Osman as the new state exco for religious affairs.

In a statement today, the movement’s deputy chief Mohd Sany Hamzan said Rani was a natural candidate by virtue of him helming the party’s top post in the state.

“In addition, he is someone who is very close with the people and very concerned with the people’s problems,” said Sany.

Rani, a medical doctor, is currently the Meru state assemblyperson. He took over as state PAS commissioner in June in a major leadership reshuffle.

According to a Sinar Harian report today, Rani has explicitly stated that he is not interested in the exco position.

“It is better if another person is nominated for the post. I afraid that I will not be able to shoulder the responsibility as a state exco member,” he was quoted as saying.

However, he stressed that the Selangor PAS will abide to any decision by the central leadership to appoint any leader to assume the position, including himself.

Talk about the appointment for a new exco emerged following the sacking of Hasan Ali as a PAS member.

Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim has urged Hasan to voluntarily step down as an exco member because he is no longer part of the ruling coalition.

Hasan has yet to respond to the call.
