DAP's Bukit Gasing assemblyperson Edward Lee died of cancer-related complications at the University Malaya Medical

Centre at about 4am today.

Lee, 64, had worked for Selangor exco member Elizabeth Wong who is in charge of tourism, consumer affairs and environment portfolio.

"Edward was my assistant exco. Met him about 10 years ago when we worked on Petaling Jaya Local Plan1 and Save Bukit Gasing (campaign).

"Dedicated community activist," said Wong in a posting on her Facebook webpage this morning.

Selangor DAP vice-chairperson Charles Santiago, when contacted by Bernama , said Lee’s family members had not decided on the funeral arrangements, adding that his remains would be taken to his home in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya, at 2pm today.s

Lee is survived by his wife, Christina Lee, and three sons.

He was also a member of the Selangor government’s Special Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency.

Lee was a well-known social activist before contesting in the 2008 general election for the state seat of Bukit Gasing.

He defeated Dr Lim Thuang Seng of Gerakan with a majority of 8,812 votes.

There will be no by-election as the Selangor legislative assembly has completed more than two-thirds of its term. The seat will be filled in the next polls.
