Perak DAP secretary Nga Kor Ming has challenged pro-BN bloggers to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged corruption involving his wife's company.

NONE While admitting that his wife Wong Seow Ching's company had won a tailoring contract for lounge suits for Ipoh City councillors in 2008, Nga (left) insisted that everything was above board.

“The firm got the tailoring job after an open tender exercise conducted by the Ipoh City Council.

"(Then Menteri Besar Mohamed) Nizar (Jamaluddin) and I were never on the tender board, and we did not interfere in the decision-making (either),” he said when contacted.

“I challenge them (the bloggers) to lodge a report with the MACC.”

Nga said the firm, Ethan & Elton Sdn Bhd, which had entered the bid at RM650 per lounge suit, is managed by Wong's business partner.

NONE “My wife is only a sleeping partner,” said Nga, who was state exco member in charge of Education, Local Government, Housing and Public Transport.

The Taiping MP was responding to posts by several pro-BN bloggers, who accused the Pakatan Rakyat-led Perak government of favouring its cronies in awarding contracts while the coalition was in power.

According to the Companies Commission search results posted by the bloggers, Wong is a director of Ethan & Elton, formed on April 24, 2008, a few months after Pakatan took over Perak.

‘Highest bidder’ wins

The bloggers also published Ipoh City Council meeting minutes which state that another company, Goodman Tailor, had in 2007 been appointed through direct negotiation.

NONE “It is understood that the state government have (sic) suggested that Ethan & Elton...supply the lounge suit for the council members who will be appointed,” the document reads.

It also published the tender list for the lounge suit contract, revealing that Goodman was the lowest bidder at RM450 per suit, and that Ethan & Elton was the highest bidder.

According to the Ipoh City Council website, there are 24 councillors.

“To the best of my knowledge, I have never seen the document (the meeting minutes). If the incident did (indeed) happen in 2008, why raise it (only) now?” Nga asked.

“Judging from the (bloggers’) previous records, concoction and forgery will not be surprising. Our conscience is clear and our hands are clean.”
