Warlord-godfather spat: State rep gets death threats

Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer who criticised Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Prof P Ramasamy over the latter's branding of DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh as 'godfather', has allegedly received death threats.
He said the death threats were issued last night and this morning by a man speaking in Tamil, who used a private telephone line.
"The caller had introduced himself as a supporter of Ramasamy and warned me not to raise issues involving the deputy chief minister at the Penang DAP Convention tomorrow.
"He told me that if I cared for my life and those of my family members, I would refrain from criticising Ramasamy.
"Nevertheless, I will continue to speak on the issue without fear, and I will ask Ramasamy to apologise over his statement branding Karpal Singh as a 'godfather'," he said.
The Penang DAP Socialist Youth vice-chairperson was speaking to reporters after lodging a report at the Timur Laut police headquarters today.
The spat between Ramasamy and Karpal involved what appeared to have been a leak by the deputy chief minister in connection with several candidates said to have either been shortlisted for the next general election or left out.
This led Karpal to say that DAP would not tolerate warlords who supported anyone to be fielded as candidates. Ramasamy retorted by saying the party should be rid of both warlords and godfathers.
Timur Laut police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said Rayer's police report would be investigated under section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
