Investigations have shown that allegations of a romantic link between Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and DPP Farah Azlina to be untrue, de facto Law Minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz says.

In a parliamentary written reply to Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh, Nazri said the probe was conducted by the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“However, allegations about the relationship could not be substantiated with any concrete ( kukuh ) evidence,” he said.

Nazri said the Attorney-General’s Chambers had removed Farah from the prosecution bench to prevent further allegations and that she has been transferred to another department. 

On Aug 2 last year, Anwar’s defence team filed an unsuccessful application to call Farah and Saiful to the stand after allegations surfaced that the duo were having a romantic relationship.

The allegations first appeared online, prompting Farah’s removal from the case on July 27 last year. Both Farah and Saiful have not denied the allegation.

The defence team had argued that if the pair did have an affair, Saiful may have access to the prosecution’s documents, thus giving him an unfair advantage in the Sodomy II trial.

In its affidavit of reply, the prosecution said it could not verify the alleged affair and stressed that it was inconsequential, since Farah’s role was limited to note taking.

Anwar’s application to call the duo to the stand was eventually struck out .
