AG's Report useless if nothing is being done

VOXPOP 'Year after year, the Auditor-General's Report is filled with glaring examples of wrongdoing for which nobody is brought to book.'

Mara ticked off for high-priced purchases

vox populi small thumbnail Freemsia: Honestly, what is the use of releasing all this information found in the Auditor-General's Report every year? At the end of the day, as in past years, nothing is done about it. No one ever seems to be hauled up by the authorities.

Lim Chong Leong: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has not even taken action against the culprits of audit years 2009 and before. This is the transformation programme that PM Najib Razak is dishing out.

While we tighten our belts, we also spend millions on useless horses, sewing machines and folding chairs. They cut the fuel subsidy so that we can spend on all these?

Make them pay by voting Pakatan Rakyat.

Democrat 53: This is nothing, just peanuts compared to the rip-offs at the top level.

For example, the RM1 billion new palace - what was the initial contract value, to whom it was awarded and sub-contracted to, which company is completing the job and what is the total price?

The MRT project - why is the initial cost already many, many times more than the bullet trains in China?

What did we actually pay for the submarines? Why such a large commission to Abdul Razak Baginda's company?

Mr Auditor, why highlight minor discrepancies and keep silent on the wastage I mentioned?

Pemerhati: What is really happening is that at the very top, people in BN like Mahathir Mohamad and Najib steal billions through negotiated overpriced contracts, armament and other purchases and various other crooked deals like those with the IPPs (independent power producers).

After that, you have the people in the ministerial level who are able to steal tens of millions in a similar manner. Then you have a large number of people in the bloated public service who also steal in the same way by getting kickbacks.

But the amount stolen by each of them, although significant, is very much less than that stolen by the ministers because they are given very much smaller amounts of money to spend. It is these comparatively small-time thieves that the AG (auditor-general) exposes annually.

Their bosses, the big-time thieves like the ministers, are obliged to close an eye to the theft by these thieves because the ministers rely on these people to steal in a big way. This will only end when the Malaysians, like the Arabs, decide to have a ‘Malaysian Spring'.

SusahKes: An oven for RM1,200? And what are they baking inside it - a diamond ring?

And you thought a RM200 screwdriver was out of this world. But seriously, what did we expect? These spendthrifts and public fund abusers watched the Umno big fellows spend public money as though it belongs to their grandfathers.

They observe how the chief executive attends his daughter's wedding under the guise of an official trip; they observe how the first lady gets to buy diamond rings; they observe how the big boss gets to fly around the globe at a cost of millions of ringgit.

They observe activities such as submarine commissions, by-election ‘angpows', and chief minister's mansions.

What else can we expect after years of Umno of hijacking of the New Economic Policy?

Abasir: These are serious ‘allegations' by the AG.

Going by the wise words and logic of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, the police and MACC should immediately investigate and so that the guilt or innocence of those accused of criminal mismanagement can be put to rest.

Gov't studying anti-apostasy law proposal

David Dass: This an attempt by extremists to gain control over all our lives. Just brandish the Holy Book and their interpretation of it and everybody falls in line.

They assume that moderate Malays will not contradict them for fear of being labelled anti-Islam. They ignore the democratic process and they ignore the federal constitution. All must give way to God's law.

We must resist them. It is unfortunate that the federal government has said that the proposal is being considered.

There are serious implications to the formulation, enactment and to the implementation of such a law. There is the insurmountable barrier of the federal constitution where freedom of worship is guaranteed.

And no non-Muslim can be subject to syariah law - even assuming that this become law. This is a crucial point. This is the point where religions intersect.

No priest from whatever faith will turn away a seeker. So is it conceivable that at some point, a law be passed prohibiting conversion by any faith in addition to Islam?

Passerby: We want to see also a law created where Muslims are prohibited to proselyte to non-Muslims as well.

Many non-Muslims of the Buddhists, Christian and Hindu faith have been converted to Islam whereas no Muslim has been converted according to government statistics. We want a law that goes both ways.

Simon Lee 3ed5: No man-made law can stop anyone from propagating his faith to anyone as this will be against the divine principle of reciprocity and mutual respect.

No one has any right to deprive or suppress the freedom of conscience given by Allah.

It is the fundamental right of a person to decide who and what he or she wants to believe in and no man-made law, or any bigot's or fanatic's law, or any Umno law or any decree from any institution, can stop or force anyone from believing and preaching his/her faith.
