The police have questioned constitutional law expert Abdul Aziz Bari on his comments in news portal Malaysiakini on a recent decree issued by the Selangor sultan.

Aziz was questioned by two officers at the Shah Alam district police headquarters this morning under the Sedition Act following a police report filed against him by Umno Senator Mohd Ezam Nor.

NONE "I am a suspect. It is a follow up to the police report made by Ezam last week," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Asked about today's interrogation,  Aziz said the police acted “professionally and were cordial”, and that they classified the case under the Sedition Act.

Normally, such investigations are carried out under Section 4 of the Act.

The investigation comes two days after Aziz and a Malaysiakini journalist were questioned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on the same matter.

The MCMC questioned Malaysiakini staff again this afternoon, while the police are also expected to visit the Malaysiakini office later in the day.

Police, MCMC officers interview Malaysiakini editor

In the evening, a police officer with the rank of assistant superintendent came to Malaysiakini to quiz a Bahasa Malaysia section editor Wee Yu Meng for more than an hour, ending at 5.15pm.

Earlier, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission also interviewed Wee for about an hour.

Yesterday, MCMC quizzed Aziz in Gombak, and Malaysiakini journalist Jimadie Shah Othman at our office in Bangsar.

The lecturer, an expert in constitutional law, is being investigated following his statement  questioning the Sultan of Selangor's intervention in the Damansara Utama Methodist Church issue following a raid conducted by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department enforcement officers.

The action by the authorities follows a police report lodged by Senator Ezam Mohd Noor on Oct 13, against Aziz and Malaysiakini for sedition.

Ezam claimed the law professor was being rude and had committed treachery against the Malay rulers by making such comments against the Selangor sultan.
