Zaid Ibrahim’s Kita party is undergoing turbulence, with some key figures having gotten the boot following infighting over claims of 'tyranny' and leadership woes.

NONE But this will not prevent the party from embarking on a roadshow to garner support for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s efforts to “save democracy” by way of reforms of a number of laws.

In a statement today, Kita’s Democracy Roadshow secretariat said Najib’s announcement that the emergency laws, the Internal Security Act, and laws relating to the press, freedom of assembly and expression is “historical and full of importance”.

“It is important the people at all levels understand the aims and objectives of these policy transformations. Without a deep understand, the people can be confused by quarters who are against the said transformation.

“The effort of the prime minister should be supported by all quarters regardless of their political views, as the transformation will benefit the people as a whole,” said the secretariat.

With this awareness, and to ensure the noble efforts of the prime minister are not held back, Kita will have meetings with the general public to clarify and inform regarding certain matters relating to the issue.

Among the places that Kita will be having these meet-the-people events are Pasir Putih (Sept 27), Kota Bharu (Sept 28), Jerantut (Oct 2) Petaling Jaya (Oct 4), Kapar (Oct 6), Bangi, Selangor(Oct 9), Seri Andalas (Oct 14), Kota Kinabalu (Oct 17), Sungai Petani (Oct 20) and Kelana Jaya (Oct 26).

NONE Kita said the other locations where the roadshow will take place will be disclosed later.

Najib ( left ) announced last week that the ISA, the Emergency Ordinance, Restricted Residence Act and Banishment Act would be repealed.  

It is likely, however, that the repeal of the laws will only take place months away.

Central secretary Abdul Latif A Tambi, treasurer Rashid Azad Khan and central executive committee member Muhammad Firdaus Christopher were last week dismissed.

CEC member Mohd Zahrein Zakariah said he will call for an extraordinary general meeting to urge Zaid to step down.
