The police have rejected the third attempt by lawyers to gain access to the six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) activists detained under the Emergency Ordinance 1969 (EO).

"Police rejected our visit at 2.30pm today," he said in a text-message.

Bon confirmed that the lawyers will file habeas corpus applications tomorrow to have the detainees released, despite failing to get them to sign their respective affidavits.

The lawyers will have to get the family members to file affidavits for the applications, which the government could challenge in court.

PSM supporters and lawyers first tried to meet the six on Saturday when they were arrested but were told by the police that they could only do so on Monday.

Yesterday the legal team and about 20 family members, some of whom had travelled from Perak, went to the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters but in vain .

Police agreed to consider the lawyers’ demand and to get back to them yesterday evening but the answer was another 'No'.

azlan The six, including Sungai Siput MP Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj, were among 50 people detained at the Sungai Dua toll plaza in Kepala Batas, Penang on June 25 under Section 122 of the Penal Code for allegedly attempting to ‘wage war’ against the Agong.

After their remand order expired on June 30, they were re-arrested under Section 2 (1) of the EO.

The police have alleged that the six are suspected to be involved with foreign elements and have subversive tendencies.

PSM supporters will hold a candlelight vigil tonight at the entrance to the federal police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, to demand the release of the six.
