Eight more village chiefs in Selangor have received copies of the sex video allegedly of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in the mail in the past week.

According to Shah Alam parliamentarian Khalid Samad, the matter was first made known to him by Padang Jawa Petaling village chief Abdul Aziz Barhan, who received four compact disc copies of the 22-minute video in the mail on Tuesday.

"The CDs were addressed to him and accompanied with a letter which provides justifications over why the man in the video is confirmed to be Anwar," he told reporters today.

This follows the same claims by 18 other village chiefs from rural areas of Selangor, including Hulu Bernam and Kuala Kubu Baru.

Of the eight Malay village chiefs who complained to Khalid, three are from villages in Shah Alam while the others are from Subang, Meru and Klang.

Other than Meru, all the villages fall under the Shah Alam City Council jurisdiction.

Four CDs in an envelope

It is understood that village chiefs under the jurisdiction of the Klang Municipal Council have also received the same mail.

"I am assuming that others got four copies too... I don't know, maybe (the senders) want the recipients to set up village screenings.

"They were all addressed to the village chiefs and there is possibility that it is a nationwide operation... imagine the amount of money and extent of their efforts," he said.

Also at the press conference was Kota Raja parliamentarian Siti Mariah Mahmud who believes the mailing of the CDs is an effort to sway Pakatan Rakyat's grassroot support ahead of the general election.

"(The perpetrators) have problems convincing supporters and PAS, DAP and PKR members, as well as fence-sitters.

"So they are trying to do so through the village chiefs who in turn have committee members under them, so on and so forth," she said.

Double standards

She said that, in fact, the distribution of pornography is criminal and that the police should start by charging the trio who first screened the video.

"When the Chua Soi Lek sex video surfaced police issued a strong warning against possession, screening and watching of it. A warning should be made this time, too," Khalid added.

The distribution of the sex video CDs comes at  a time when Pakatan is struggling to hold on to its influence on Malay voter, especially in Selangor which has a PKR-led administration.

Anwar is the figurehead of the Selangor Pakatan administration and holds the post of state economic advisor. 

PKR and Pakatan is widely expected to face a tough battle in Selangor as it is among BN's highest priorities in the next general election.
