The attorney-general today failed to turn up at a disciplinary committee hearing on his complaint against lawyer and PKR Youth Chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin.

According to Shamsul Iskandar, attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail's representatives and witnesses were also missing despite having to state their case today.

"The first hearing was on April 16 and the AG's representatives were present and received due notice that the hearing will continue today with them presenting evidence," he said when contacted.

Investigating Tribunal chairperson Suraj Singh decided to proceed with the hearing despite their absence.

NONE The AG had lodged a complaint against Shamsul Iskandar ( wearing dark glasses ) on April 12, 2010 - about a year after the opposition politician gave a speech on May 30, 2009 on the Perak government takeover during the Penanti by-election campaign.

The case between ousted Perak Menteri Besar Nizar Jamaluddin and incumbent MB Zambry Abdul Kadir was then ongoing.

The complaint was filed under Section 99 (a) (2) of the Legal Profession Act 1976, which states that any court, judge or magistrate or the AG can cite a lawyer or pupil to the disciplinary board.

"I gave my justification and related my version of events and I'm hoping that the decision is in my favour," Shamsul Iskandar said of the closed-door hearing which began at 9.45 am to close at 12.15pm today.

Both parties are due to present their final submission on June 3, with the decision expected in mid-June.

Shamsul Iskandar can be fined, suspended from the profession or disbarred if found guilty.
