Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak went live on the radio station Hot FM at Seri Pentas today and among others, related his childhood experiences as well as his life as a politician.

One of this was riding a bicycle to buy nasi lemak at Tang Ling, which he loves.

NONE The irony was that the prime minister did not truly answer the question posed to him by the deejay: whether he had taken any public transport.

The question came after Najib said one of the objectives of his brainchild Government Transformation Programme (GTP) and National Key Results Area (NKRA) introduced last year was to improve public transportation.

“However, the idea is to improve public transportation by mid-term and not in the short-term. Hopefully, there will be some improvements seen by 2012,” Najib said.

Digs at Liverpool FC

This was when the DJ asked the prime minister whether he had taken public transport before. Najib did not answer question directly, but spoke about his experience riding a bicycle to go buy nasi lemak .

NONE “I used to ride the bicycle to buy nasi lemak at the famous Tang Ling place. I would ride my bicycle downhill, sometimes with my younger brother, to buy nasi lemak as that is among his favourite places. We would ride downhill and then cycle up

“At that time it was priced 30 sen and you can ask for anything, like chicken and prawn sambal to go with it. It used to be run by a lady and now I think her son continues with the business,” Najib said.

This was followed by the DJ saying that with all those additions now, the nasi lemak would be priced at RM5.

Najib who is an ardent Manchester United fan also took digs at Liverpool Football Club when asked what he thought about the club.

He believes MU can win the European Cup scheduled for later this month, even though Barcelona has started as the favourite.

“It will depend on luck, form and other factors, plus we are playing at Wembley, London,” Najib said.

In joking about Liverpool, Najib said, “you know, Manchester has its own TV in MU TV and Chelsea has Chelsea TV... but Liverpool has the History Channel.”

Why he loves 11

In a related development, Bernama sparked off some more speculation about the 13th general election by focusing on Najib's confirmation that he likes the number 11.

Najib, who is also BN chairperson and Umno president, said people were speculating that because he likes the number, there was speculation that he would call for a snap general election on Nov 11 this year (11.11.11).

Asked by reporters after the radio show, Najib responded that it was better to let the matter remain as speculation.

The prime minister, however, stressed on the need for the BN to keep the momentum going in implementing what had been set out under the Government Transformation Programme.

“The election can be held any time, not necessarily in the month of November or on the 11th day of any month.

“This is a process; as long as the signal has not been sounded, we should continue to work,” he said.

When asked whether the date was a highly probable date to hold an election, Najib said, “The date resonates with my life, but whether the election will be held on that date, God knows.”

Earlier during the programme, Najib revealed for the first time the significance of the number 11, saying it relates to several important events in his life.

His father, the late Abdul Razak Hussein, he said, was born on March 11, 1922, while his mother Rahah Noah was born on June 11, 1933.

NONE His first son’s birthday falls on the 11th and Umno was formed on May 11, 1946, Najib said.

Najib was also the 11th Menteri Besar of Pahang, holding the post between 1982 and 1986, and he is also the 11th Orang Kaya Indera Shah Bandar.

His official car bears the plate number 11.

The premier also engaged in a quick game of checkers with DJ Faizal Ismail, in which Najib lost.
