Umno-owned Malay daily Berita Harian has front-paged a story which quotes a source as saying that the sex video purportedly showing opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim had been sent to a South Korean broadcasting agency for biometric analysis and that it has come back a match based on Anwar’s physical records with the police.

NONE The source also said that the police have identified the location where the video was filmed as a condominium on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur and that the woman who was in the video is actually a student at a private college in the city.

Apart from that, the daily reported that the police are not too concerned about the Omega watch, which was previously said to belong to Anwar, but which was given to the police along with the video footage.

Though it was previously widely reported in the pro-Umno blogs that the watch was a gift from the Saudi Arabian royal household, Berita Harian reported that the police have traced the watch to Taiwan, where it was bought in 2004.

"The issue of the watch is not so important. However, based on checks with the dealer in Taiwan, it only started recording the owners’ particulars from 2008 onwards.

seri carcosa 3 "So if it was bought in 2004, it would be very hard for the police to identify who owns it, unless the owner were to register the watch voluntarily," said the source.

The purported sex video first surfaced exactly a month ago when businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah - under the pseudonym of ‘Datuk T’ - invited several journalists and editors for a screening at the Carcosa Seri Negara hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

He, together with former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim, later unveiled themselves collectively to be ‘Datuk T’ and admitted responsibility over the screening of the video.

azlan Later, the ‘Datuk T’ trio handed over the video as well as the Omega watch to the police.

Subsequently, the police said that the three could also be charged with screening or distributing obscene material.

However, a short two-minute clip from the video was uploaded on popular video-sharing website YouTube, prominently showing a man resembling Anwar clad only in a towel with a woman in the bedroom.

PKR: Paper is trying to embarrass Anwar

Meanwhile, PKR leaders rallied around their de facto leader, saying that the Berita Harian report was only aimed at injuring Anwar politically.

When asked for comment, party secretary-general and Machang MP Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said: “I cannot simply give a comment based on what the source said.”

“We don’t know if the source if credible or not. All we know is based on what the investigating officer or inspector-general of police said, which is that they have completed their investigations and that it would be given to the Attorney-General’s Chambers soon.

anwar pc 290607 saifuddin nasution “If Berita Harian doesn’t reveal who this source is, the newspaper is deliberately trying to embarrass Anwar to the maximum, hoping to inflict injury to Anwar politically,” slammed Saifuddin (left) .

“In fact, I congratulate the paper on its consistency. It doesn’t seem to give up attacking Anwar. It has been doing this for the last 12 years.

“It is trying to convince the nation into believing that Anwar is the most dangerous person in Malaysia, that he is morally corrupt and a sexual maniac,” he told Malaysiakini .

Meanwhile, the PKR communications director, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that the party is still convinced that it is not Anwar.

“As far as we’re concerned, it’s not him. There are still so many unanswered questions on the video. At the same time, the police reports, the announcements on the video, they were all in parallel with the Sarawak election.

“This is just another political game by BN. There is no strong record to prove these insinuations... They ask ‘where’s Anwar’s watch’. But in court, it doesn’t prove anything, whether syariah or civil,” he said.
