Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein today denied media reports that several arrests have been made in connection with the sex video screened to members of the media by the ‘Datuk T' trio on March 21.

"None, to my knowledge," he said when asked to confirm the arrests at a press conference at a meeting room in Parliament House.

Members of the media scrambled for more news much of the day last Friday, after the Star ran a report on its online portal claiming that two of the Datuk T group - former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik and businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah - had been arrested and later released on bail.

NONE The paper later updated its online report, saying that there were three arrests, not two.

However, the report in its print version on Saturday reverted to its earlier claim of two people arrested, but it did not name them.

Hishammuddin ( right ) said around eight police reports had been filed related to the sex video, but noted that the current police investigations were based on the initial report filed by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar filed the police report a day after the three individuals known as ‘Datuk T’, who also include Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim, organised a mysterious screening of the sex video in which the PKR de facto chief was allegedly filmed.

Commenting on calls for a royal commission of inquiry into the authenticity of the sex video, Hishammuddin said it would not get in the way of the ongoing police investigations.

“The calls for a royal commission are to get to the truth (behind the sex video claims). It will not be affected by the police investigation, nor will the police investigation be affected by a royal commission,” he said.

Ball in the police's court

Hishammuddin again brushed aside opposition claims of a conspiracy involving his ministry and the police to bring Anwar down, saying that the best way for them to disprove such claims was by simply doing their job.

“I know that experts, including foreign experts, have been called in to evaluate (the video), but it is not for me to confirm this.

azlan “(You) need to get the police confirmation, because I am not involved... they (police) are doing their jobs as usual,” he said, adding that he has already initiated legal action against the opposition’s conspiracy claims.

Asked if the police would arrest the ‘Datuk T’ trio for holding a media screening of the sex video, he said it is up to either the police or the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“We have to go through the process. I don’t know, you have to ask the prosecutor or the police.

“But I think the IGP (Ismail Omar) said in the past week, when they want to arrest, they will arrest (the suspects). He promised that no stone (will be) left unturned,” Hishammuddin added.
