The panel for the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Teoh Beng Hock's death today paid a visit to Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam, to see for themselves the site where the political aide fell to his death two years ago.

The five- member panel, lead by Federal Court judge James Foong, spent the later half of the morning inspecting the spot where Teoh died and also touring the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission's (MACC) former office on the 14th floor.

NONE They arrived with a police escort from the Duta court complex at around 9.45am, to be greeted by a swarm of cameramen and photographers, many waiting since 9am.

They were met at the entrance by conducting officer Amarjeet Singh and ASP Ahmad Nazri Zainal, the investigating officer, who had led the police probe into Teoh's death.

After a short briefing, the panellists proceeded to the fifth floor landing where Teoh's body was found, with an entourage of lawyers representing the MACC and the Bar Council and a clutch of forensics and special branch officers in tow.

Panel visit surprises staff

Journalists ,however, were not allowed in with the group to inspect the site, where they spent a good 30 minutes before proceeding to the MACC's former Selangor office.

NONE At the office, now converted to an Islamic college, the panellists covered several areas where Teoh was said to have been during his interrogation by the MACC that fateful night.

This included the hallway, now renovated into a classroom, the meeting room which is now also another classroom, the toilet and the pantry, that has been knocked down and now made part of the hallway.

They was also at the office, where journalists were finally let in, catching staff of the college by surprise at the large group of strangers going through their workspace.

The tour ended at around 11.10am with tea for the panellists and the officials.

The commission will resume its hearing at 2.30pm today when the first witness is expected to be called.
