"But they are not that expensive! I am happy people thought my clothes looked so expensive, actually it does not cost that much.

"I am actually happy that people thought I was so well dressed," she said in jest.

She was responding to allegations by former PKR Youth secretary turned Umno public speaking training unit head Lokman Nor Adam during a ceramah last night.

Lokman claimed that at the time, Wan Azizah’s clothes had cost up to RM8,000 a piece and that she would have 20 sets tailored annually.

Anwar attacks getting old?

Lokman said that this spendthrift behaviour was unacceptable, lamenting that Wan Azizah had not helped him nor his family during his two-year detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA) between 2001 and 2003.

NONE The ceramah ( left ) in Bayan Baru, attended by about 80 people, was part of Umno’s roadshow dubbed ‘ Ayat-ayat cinta Pakatan Rakyat ' (Pakatan’s sweet talk) in the state in the run up to the next general elections.

Wan Azizah viewed this as a personal attack, adding that Umno was training their guns on her because its barrage of attacks against Anwar, who is PKR de facto leader, had failed to cause any impact.

"I think that's why they are starting to do this; they thought it might have an impact on the people," she said.

Wan Azizah said that her lawyers will be looking into Lokman’s speeches for defamatory elements.
