'BN is never serious about corruption because if they do, the whole lot of BN ministers, including the PM, would be put behind bars.'
Md Imraz Ikhbal: This piece of news serves nothing more than a confirmation of how soon the next general election is. Indeed Dr Mohd Khir Toyo will be charged, but most probably not convicted. He will just be slapped with a small penalty or even cleared of all charges due to some technical glitch by the prosecution.
But in the unlikely event that he is convicted and sentenced to imprisonment, then rest assured that it is because Umno/BN considers him a liability and no longer require him in their machinery.
Poor Khir Toyo if such is the case. Even MIC's S Samy Vellu has more value to PM Najib Razak's administration.
Louis: A swallow does not make a summer. There are hundreds more of BN leaders who should be thrown behind bars long ago for corruption. This Khir Toyo case might be just a showcase. Eventually the judge will say, "no case".
Boonpou: This only goes to show how desperate the Umno ruling regime is. First you have the ‘ketuanan Melayu' rhetoric, calling Pakatan Rakyat anti-Malaysia, dolling out millions for foreign PR consultant companies to come up with a simple Martin Luther King script, and fearing that is not enough, they offer some sacrificial lambs.
Who is next? Too bad it won't go all the way up to murderers of Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Rolls-Royce: Yes, charge him and the popularity of BN/Umno will increase by a few notches. This is all part of the scheme. The general election is coming.
Just like what Abdullah Ahmad ‘Pak Lah' Badawi did in 2004 - remember he charged one federal minister, one official at the federal level, one at the state level and one at the district level and after that, we all fell heads and shoulders for him? Of course, we now know nothing happened to those charged.
So the same strategy will be used again. Khir Toyo will be found not guilty or the case will be abandoned half way. This is our ‘manifest destiny' !
Do you know what is wrong with them? They will do the same things over and over again and expect different results. I don't know right now who are bigger nincompoops, the BN/Umno or we, the people.
Parameswara: The trial can go on after the GE13 and BN will use this to convince the public that action is being taken against the corrupt few. After the elections are over, and if BN returns to power, the defence counsels will expose the prosecution weaknesses, the dentist will be free to live in his mansion.
The authorities will instead go after the Sekinchan Adun Ng Suee Lim for giving the wrong information to the authorities.
Rick Teo: The ‘sandiwara' of charging Khir Toyo and later acquit him of any wrongdoing is just a gimmick to fool the public that BN is serious about corruption. Once the election is over, he will be acquitted.
You fool me once, shame on you, but you fool me twice, shame on us. So please spare us all these ‘sandiwara' because we know from past experience BN is never serious about corruption because if they do, the whole lot of BN ministers, including the PM, would be put behind bars.
Lulu: This made my day. Unfortunately, the Section 165 of the Criminal Procedure Code carries only a two-year jail term or fine, or both. He'd probably be given a low fine with no jail term.
Tired: It is typical of most Malaysians, especially Pakatan Rakyat supporters - always demanding that this person or that person be charged regardless of whether there is enough proof to build a strong case.
And when these persons are charged, they will then claim it is just a show, the accused will be acquitted, the judges are corrupt, etc. I wonder why some people can never be satisfied. I think they are born with the propensity to complain, whine, moan, whimper and drone.
If you are already convinced everything is just a show, then why in the first place demand that charges be filed and action be taken against these people? I am amazed of the naivety of the notion that if Pakatan comes to power, the judges, police, AG, immigration, customs, bomba, etc, will magically transform into world-class outfits.
P Dev Anand Pillai: Khir Toyo should have been charged a long time ago. What were they doing then? It proves that none of these so-called independent institutions are actually what they call themselves to be and the people know that. They want to see these corrupt leaders in jail so that it will show that the eradication process has started.
Till then, the people will find it hard to believe, because time and time again, they have proven it right. It is all nothing but a show, just like Eric Chia, Kasitah Gaddam, VK Lingam and a host of others.
So it is not whining, whimpering or moaning, it is sheer tiredness of knowing that it is nothing but bluff.
Joker: The AG seems to have picked the least damaging charge with the least possibility of success against Khir Toyo. So what if someone is willing to sell a property at below market price? And how does one prove what is the market price?
If the seller, Ditamas director Shamsuddin Haryoni, is willing to 'bear all guilt', Khir Toyo can easily get off scot-free while Shamsuddin may never have the charge stick to him. Why not simply charge Toyo for undisclosed income by way of corruption for being able to build a RM20 million palace on a low-cost land?
DOC: Khir Toyo being charged with graft is yet another BN/Umno ploy to create an illusion that BN is tough on graft. Elections are around the corner and Khir Toyo and his mansion continue to stand up like a visible bull's eye for the opposition to take potshots against Umno on their handling of graft.
I bet my last dollar that Khir Toyo's court case will start with gusto and then will undergo numerous delays and post deferments till after GE 13 when he will be freed of graft. This is to get the opposition off BN/Umno's back that they are lackadaisical with pursuing graft charges against Umno cronies, especially Khir Toyo.
I think that Umno has not realised that the rakyat is fully aware that the courts are run by Umno and this silly exercise of charging Khir Toyo is not going to amount to anything concrete. In the end, this chicken is going to fly the coop.
Josephine: A sacrificial lamb to pave the way for GE13? A strategic move to counter Pakatan's charge of corruption to hopefully sway the people's anger towards the many accusations which have so far fallen on deaf ears of the authority. If the precedent of Kasitah Gaddam is anything to go by, we can say that this man shall never need to go behind jail at all.
Yobama: I can't believe it, after all these years, many years after Ahmad Lutfi Othman made a series of reports on this son of Toyo. This shows the GE13 is very near. The case will drag on and in the end, verdict will be: case dismissed - insufficient evidence.
That will be after the GE. Mission accomplished. BN win many seats.
Rolls-Royce: If March 8, 2008 had not happened, Khir Toyo would be still MB Selangor and probably acquiring a few more RM20 million mansions and on the way up to become the future PM of Malaysia. There would be no investigation and no charges.
So you think we should be grateful to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the present regime for bringing to justice those who abused power and were corrupted?
