PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has broken her silence on criticism of the ongoing party elections, assuring that complaints on the elections procedure are being studied thoroughly.

                    

"We had a meeting yesterday and we leave it to the central elections committee (CEC) to address the complaints. It is all a misconception that the CEC is not taking the complaints seriously, but they are," she said.

wan azizah interview 270308 03 "We are aware that 69 divisions had complaints over the elections so we are taking action on it. We have lack of secretarial staff so we cannot send letters out to all of them to tell them in detail that we are looking into their grouses," she told reporters at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

However, Dr Wan Azizah ( left ) was non-committal when asked about the calls for her to step in to halt the party polls.

"We have to address the concerns. We love the members and the members love the party back. We just want (the elections) to be executed well," she said.

When pressed further, she said: "Give us more time".

Several party leaders have called for the party elections to be fauzi abdul rahman 121010 aborted or postponed, including deputy president candidate Mustaffa Kamil Ayub, youth chief candidate Badrul Hisham Shaharin and vice-president candidate Jonson Chong.

They all had claimed irregularities and malpractices in the party elections conduct.

Wan Azizah was speaking to reporters after receiving a memorandum from Pahang party chief Fauzi Abdul Rahman ( right ) on six resolutions passed during a meeting of PKR Youth members in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday night.

'We know we have weaknesses'

When met later, Fauzi, who described himself as a 'postman', said that the meeting went well and that the party president "was aware of the party's weaknesses".

"We don't have a denial syndrome. She knows what is going on and the party has a healthy culture of hearing the members' problems.

“What must happen now is that we shouldn't allow our weaknesses to weaken the party," he said.

bagan pinang by election 061009 chegubard Badrul Hisham ( left ), who accompanied Fauzi to the party headquarters, also said that the resolutions were simply to improve the party and that there was no pressure or threat to the party leadership.

"No one should drop out or quit. We all should use our position even as candidates to strengthen the party," he said.

He also vehemently denied that he would be dropping out from contest, following former PKR Federal Territories chief Zaid Ibrahim's withdrawal .

"It is not at all in my vocabulary to quit or withdraw from contesting," he said.
