'Buy-elections in Sabah a normal affair'

vox populi small thumbnail 'It is usually funded by big time government contractors who obtained government projects under the negotiated and direct tender system.'

RM20 for workers... or voters?

Voice: RM20 may seem little but I heard from my friend that some even voted for BN at previous elections for just some cigarettes. Many Sabahans are poor.

BN leaders think they will win if they do that. They may win in this by-election but not all elections. Buying votes will make the people realise who the bad and good guys are. The vote will favour BN now, but at the end it will go to the opposition. Vote-buying will kill BN slowly.

Lover Boy: Hello, were those getting paid really ‘jentera parti' (party workers)? Look at them in the Malaysiakini video - there were an ‘Ah Soh' (aunty) and man wearing singlet and shorts.

I had my speakers turned up high to listen to two ‘Ah Sohs' talking. They spoke in Hakka, a common dialect there I suppose. One told the other in a muffled tone, "Give your IC to them and you will get RM20."

Gunner: Vote buying is perfectly normal in Sabah. It is usually funded by big time government contractors who obtained government projects under the negotiated and direct tender system.

In the rural areas, handouts are given away such as sardines, rice, ‘kain sarong', stoves, building materials, etc.

Freemsia: I agree with what Tok Guru (Nik Aziz Nik Mat) said. It is after all the rakyat's money. Take the money (it is better than have it stolen by Umno) and vote these racist and corrupted people out.

Fairplayer: Since the voters are so desperately poor, with a little bit of wise counselling, ask them to take the RM20, but vote the candidate who will help them the most in the long run - the candidate who will make sure their standard of living be improved and their poverty greatly reduced if not eradicated.

Li Ting Rui: You get RM20, they get RM200 billion. You see who is smarter?

'Najib, see our quiet desperation'

Baqaalam: The BN cronies need projects to survive financially. This could be the real motive for the unnecessary Warisan Tower. They don't care whether the rakyat disagree or not, their pockets are their priority. Like they say, "Ada udang disebalik mee."

Black Mamba: What's the pride of building a 100-storey building when all roads leading to and around Kuala Lumpur are full of potholes. Just drive on roads around KLCC - Jalan Binjai, Stonor, Kia Peng, Conlay and Jalan Ampang - you will understand what I mean.

Mind you, these are the roads where the sultans have their KL palaces. When you have third world mentality in maintaining city roads, will you be able to maintain a sophisticated state-of-art tower?

Where is our maintenance culture? It will never be cultivated when politicians and civil servants are more interested in instant wealth than persevering and preserving for the future generations.

Bobby Cheng: A mega-tower will result in mega-traffic jams in KL. Of course, this is not a concern to those who travel with police escorts. The rest of us who are on buses, cars, motorcycles and lorries have to give way to them.

Go ahead, continue to build your castles, palaces and mansions around the country and deprive the rakyat their basic needs. Don't even preach productivity to us as your RM500 million electronic road system cannot even function properly.

Lian Mok: Join the cyber 'Town Hall Meeting' . Read and watch all the hilarious videos on the mega-tower at 'Now Everyone Can' .

Kayveas: PPP comes to S'wak to help, not interfere

Kgen: A mosquito party with no elected seats and being given one parliament and one state seats to contest after much begging now wants to spread its wings to Sarawak to ‘help' other BN parties.

Take care of your own backyard first, M Kayveas. Pull your party out from being a doormat of BN before you aspire to bigger things.

Urban Malaysian: I agree that PPP and Kayveas should stay out of Sarwak - we don't need your help. Please focus your energy and effort to strengthen your party first.

Wfworker: You can't even take care of yourself and you wanted to waste public money by going to help your friends in Sarawak? Or is BN so desperate that you are asked to deliver the handful of Indian votes over there?

Penang to table Race Relations Act

Fido Dido: Lim Guan Eng, please ignore the Penang Umno extremists. Govern as per the rakyat mandate. Go ahead so long as you remain fair and discharge your duties with the highest integrity. Let the Penangites judge you.
