Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim retained his post as Kuala Selangor PKR division chief, defeating his two challengers with a comfortable majority at Kuala Selangor yesterday.

khalid ibrahim The incumbent division chief ( left ) scored 722 votes while rivals Mazli Saring and Muhammad Kamilvaanan Abdullah garnered 122 and 348 votes respectively.

There had been rumours that Khalid's position was untenable in the wake of a concerted attack against state office bearers by factions in the party.

Some exco members who lost their bids for divisional posts included senior exco member Elizabeth Wong in Petaling Jaya Utara and fellow exco member Rodziah Ismail in Shah Alam.

Kuala Selangor was one of 18 that held their AGMS yesterday in the last leg of divisional elections for the opposition party.

The division met to vote for divisional posts and decide on names to be nominated for the party's central leadership for the upcoming party polls in November.

azlan All told, 40 divisions met last weekend as the PKR divisional elections came to a close. While things were calmer after warnings from PKR chiefs for party members to behave themselves, some divisions like Sabak Bernam and Kelana Jaya still saw some commotion .

Kuala Selangor also nominated de facto PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim as president and his wife and incumbent president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for deputy.

Khalid yesterday said that if Wan Azizah was to contest as deputy president, he would not run against her.

However he quickly clarified that he did not totally reject the possibility of contesting for the number two spot.

If he does accept the nomination to contest for deputy president, it would create an interesting scenario as one of the hopefuls in the heated race for the number two party leadership post, FT chief Zaid Ibrahim, had already said that he will bow out of the race if Khalid were to run.
