'The people in Malim Nawar voted for Pakatan for a reason, knowing pretty well that if BN is in control, they would not give funds to the area. The people voted for change. Sadly, their representative has betrayed them.'
Malim Nawar state rep quits DAP, now Independent
Gerard Samuel Vijayan: Keshvinder Singh's excuse is lame to say the least. Most opposition MPs and state representatives do not get allocations from the BN government, and they have to manage on their own with some support from their party, although there are other ways to raise funds for constituency expenses.
The people in Malim Nawar voted for Pakatan Rakyat for a reason, knowing pretty well that if BN is in control, they would not give funds to the area. The people voted for change and an end to corruption and abuse of power. Sadly, their representative has betrayed them. The man is a disgrace to himself and the legal profession.
Susah Kes: I thought it was the Umno reps who were going to jump over. Once again, Pakatan has the rug pulled from under their feet.
Keshminder Singh, it's one thing to quit and become Independent; it's another thing to say "BN can help develop the area." Yes, we know what type of development Umno/BN offers, right? The ‘I help you, you help me' type.
By the way, since you are okay with detractors in inspecting your bank account, can you give us your account numbers? Not only yours, but all your relatives, older and younger siblings, too.
While you are at it, please also give a listing of all phone calls you made and received - both your mobile and fixed lines. Since you are okay with us checking your bank account, we also would like to see who you've been talking to for the past one month.
Good Men: Be sure the door doesn't hit you on the way out. No, we won't bother checking your bank account. I'm sure that has all been well taken care of. We are not stupid, you are - for thinking that even for a minute your lame excuses are going to fool anyone. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Rayfire: Pakatan, this is what happens when you announce defections before it actually happens. You people never ever learn, do you? Now the BN has raised your representatives' offer price and he jumped.
So much for recapturing Perak. Next time, please don't entertain frogs from either side, because once a frog, always a frog.
Anonymous: Keshvinder said he hoped the BN state government would provide financial aid to his constituency in order for him to serve his constituents. Keshvinder, the best way to make this happen is to resign and force a ‘buy-election'. Then your Malim Nawar constituents will proclaim you as a hero.
FedUp2010: Is it a mere coincidence that all the MPs and state reps who have jumped ship always had the same lines to explain their defections? All of them say that Pakatan isn't good enough and didn't fulfil their promises.
It's like all these MPs and state reps were given a standard manual on what to say at a press conference - how to attack Pakatan, how to praise BN and then how to deny that they received payments.
Victor Johan: ‘His decision to quit DAP and support BN is ironical since he had complained to the authorities last year that he was offered RM20 million to defect, declare himself Independent and express support for BN.'
MACC, when are you going to investigate the above statement?
Lim Chong Leong: So this kampung boy allegedly took the RM20 million offer in the end. Well, he will be rich but he will have no soul. And he will not walk the streets of his kampung without being spat on.
Ichigo: Kashvinder, why don't you relinquish your position and make way for a fresh poll? Let the constituents decide who shall represent them. If you cannot do that, then whatever reason you've given is nothing but just a lame excuse.
Teoh Kheng Siong: I wonder what the problem is with Pakatan. Keshvinder doesn't seem to have gotten any form of bribe from BN. I believe BN has no need to bribe him since they already govern the state. I guess Pakatan needs to work hard to unite its people because its members keep on quitting the caolition. Beware Pakatan, don't let your supporters down.
Ablastine: General Election 13 is coming near and he wants to defect at this time? This ‘frog' does not even know that this will be the end of his political career. Who is going to vote for him the next round?
Call Me Jibby: To counter the rumour of the defections of three Umno state assemblypersons, someone must have paid a high price for this to happen. Well, he was speculated to be among those to jump right before the fall of the Pakatan-led Perak government. I believe Umno/BN bought him a long time ago, but he stayed in Pakatan as a Trojan Horse.
ONG: Hindsight is 20/20. Now that Keshvinder Singh has shown his true colours, many critics have become wise men and ask why DAP picked him. When he was picked before the GE, I bet most Indians, in particular the Punjabis, would have been very happy with DAP for picking him.
I remember Keshvinder Singh was the first DAP assemblyman who was suspected to have planned to cross over to BN after the 2008 GE. Didn't he disappeared and became incommunicado for a short while and when he reappeared he gave some personal matters to attend to as an excuse?
It's surprising that it took him so long to jump. He must have been waiting for his ‘dowry' to appreciate.
Yuvan: It's a pity Keshvinder Singh thinks that he can 'swim in cool waters' by supporting BN. But in reality he has jumped from the 'frying pan into the fire'. He will know that pretty soon.
Actually all these defections are good lessons for the Pakatan coalition. The opposition coalition should realise that many of the candidates it chose to contest in the last GE were 'fragile' and did not have any merits to become full-time politicians. Further, the coalition is seriously lacking in its leadership capability to provide the necessary guidance and groom these 'newcomers' to become efficient and strong representatives of the people.
The Pakatan coalition should start to 'plug its leaks' now or be thrown out from the mainstream of the nation's political affairs. The consequences then will be disastrous with its 'reformasi agenda' never to be remembered by the people.
Cala: Under Herbert Simon's concept of "bounded rationality and opportunism", Keshvinder's defection from DAP is hardly surprising. As a man who is weakly principled, what he looks for in life are utilities that satisfy him. Rationality in decision-making means actions that will bring outcomes that meet his needs.
Remember he is only a lad. As a lad, how can he thwart off tempting offers from persons with deep pockets? For a start, he can be expected to be rewarded with some attractive contracts through direct negotiation at sky-rocketing price, and at absurd short period of contracting time. Is it not a familiar path much travelled by turncoats before him?
Christ follower: On one side BN, is telling the rakyat the country would go bankrupt if subsidies are not cut. On the other hand, it is allegedly paying millions of ringgit to the frogs. Won't this make the country go bankrupt? And they want to spend RM800 million to build a new parliament building.
Sparrow: It's the Year of the Frog.
