Malaysiakini had on May 28 run a news report entitled 'Church:

Returning grant akin to siding opposition'

At the same time, we published Bishop Hwa Yung's pastoral letter to

followers of the Methodist Church explaining acceptance of the government grants to Methodist churches in Sibu on the eve of the May 16 Sibu by-election.

We inadvertently published the pastoral letter in our 'Letters to the Editor' section which gave the impression that Bishop Hwa Yung had written to Malaysiakini on the matter. This was not the case.

The headline given by Malaysiakini to the letter was also not part of the original pastoral letter.

We apologise to Bishop Hwa Yung and the Methodist Church for the error.
