MIC deputy Youth chief V Mugilan has been expelled from party - just hours after challenging president S Samy Vellu to a debate.
Youth chief T Mohan confirmed that Mugilan was summarily dismissed for claiming that the president had done nothing for the community and for sabotaging the party during in the run-up to last month's Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election.
MIC disciplinary committee chairperson K S Nijhar confirmed that the action of dismissal was not taken by the committee.
The sacking was done under provisions of the presidential powers, after Samy Vellu consulted with the deputy president, G Palanivel (right) .
It is understood that the expulsion letter was being hand delivered to Mugilan. Upon receiving it, he has 14 days to appeal the dismissal with the party's central working committee (CWC), which will discuss the matter without the presence of the president or his deputy.
Mugilan yesterday demanded that Samy Vellu step down immediately, instead of in September next year as he had announced at a press conference on Monday.
Also yesterday, soon after Mugilan's demand Samy Vellu resignation, the party president announced that the deputy Youth chief would be referred to the disciplinary committee for working against the party's interests during the run-up to the Hulu Selangor by-election.
