PAS MP Khalid Samad told the police today to ensure the safety of a witness to yesterday’s shooting of a 15-year old boy in Section 11, Shah Alam, warning them he would brook no attempt to change the witness’ statement made on the incident.

NONE Addressing Selangor police chief Khalid Abu Bakar at a press conference this morning, the Shah Alam parliamentarian said: “I ask the police chief to guarantee the safety of this witness.

"Let there not be any move to change his statement.”

Khalid ( right ) said the police had a tendency to cover up such incidents.

According to the police report made by the witness, he and the victim - identified in a newspaper report on the incident as Aminulrasyid Amzah - were returning from a restaurant in Section 7.

After overtaking a police MPV, they were chased, the police report read further.

It was during the chase that the police shot at their car, and they were forced to stop onto the shoulder of the road.

“I went out of the car to surrender myself. One of the police personnel kicked me from behind, while others punched and kicked me.

“I struggled and was able to escape from the police, then went straight home,” said the witness in his police report.

NONE Khalid said he understands Aminulrasyid ( left ) was a good boy, active in school and known by those who patronised the neighborhood mosque.

“I hope the reputation of the deceased can be restored,” he added.

Among others present at the press conference were Selangor exco Yaakub Sapari and a member of the Parents-Teachers Association of the school that the victim attended.

The family of the teenager is scheduled to hold a press conference at their home in Section 11, Shah Alam, later today.

Another police report on the issue will also be lodged by activist-lawyer N Surendran.

Suspect tried to ram police

A different version of the episode, however, was told by a Malay-language daily in its report on the incident today.

Rather than slowing down after being told to stop their car, the teenager sped up.

The police then shot at a tyre of the Iswara.

After the car stopped, said Khalid, one of the suspects exited the vehicle and was able to escape.

The driver of the vehicle, on the other hand, suddenly reversed the car and tried to ram into the police personnel - who had by then been joined by officers from another patrol unit.

“Surprised by the action of the suspect and (trying) to defend himself, the police officer shot in the direction of the suspect in the car,” said Khalid.

The suspect died on the way to the Tengku Amuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang due to the injury sustained, added the police chief.

Meanwhile, a long machete was found in the Iswara by the police personnel, said the police chief.

All four police personnel involved in the incident have been transferred to desk jobs while investigations are carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code, said Khalid.

The investigation will be carried out fairly by officers from the Selangor police headquarters, he added.

“While the investigations are carried out, we ask that there be no speculations (aired) regarding the incident,” he said.

The police will carry out their work with full dedication and responsibility to ensure the country is safe, he added.
