Let the 'Joshua effect' spread

your say 'Anyone who has friends working in ntv7 will tell you that the top management has become very draconian since Najib's ascension to office.'

TV producer resigns over political interference

Multi Racial: If all professionals including journalists, judges, police, anti-corruption officers could do the same as Joshua Wong in standing up against the politicians and their wives for interfering in their work, this country would be a better place.

The same applies to the politicians themselves, who should stand up against their fellow colleagues if they have done something wrong. I hope the Joshua Wong effect will spread to all responsible Malaysians.

Wfcoolie: Joshua, I thought your type is extinct but your action has awaken me that there are still top-notch professionals around.

Cala: Joshua Wong, I salute you. You are the kind of journalist I respect. You are the kind of professional who has conscience and who would not sell your soul to the powerful. You would rather earn a smaller salary if needs be, but demand a more meaningful job elsewhere.

In the meantime, I wonder how minister Idris Jala is going to account for the expected drop in viewership given that the Umno-controlled TV station would only sing the songs that the executive would like to listen.

Nicholas: This is not news. Anyone who has friends working in ntv7 will tell you that the top management has become very draconian since Najib Razak's ascension to office. This is the prime minister's so-called transparency in action.

Daniel Tan: Anyone from the Star newspaper dare to make the same stand? I guess not. The gratifications and the award of datukship is too great - it's a lot more profitable to become an Umno mouthpiece than to take a principle stand in life.

I salute you, Joshua, for having the integrity.

Kgen: Kudos to Joshua Wong for his courage to resign instead of buckling to political interference. If there are more people like him, Malaysia would be a much better place. To those who still prefer to ‘kowtow' to political interests, have you no shame? Have you no confidence in your ability to earn an honest living elsewhere?

John Johnson: Why is Rosmah interfering in this issue? Who is she to censor the truth that this reporter is trying to tell the public?

All the top executives of ntv7 should be held responsible for this honourable reporter resigning from his position. Get him back on the station and send a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Department that no interference should come from the ministers or their spouses.

Journalism should be practiced freely, and the truth should be told to the public.

Nazirull Safry Paijo: Behold the invisible hand behind Najib.

Lee Heng Soon: "The SMS also included rants with racial undertones, suggesting that Chinese people are ‘becoming rude' and that ‘the Malays should go to war'."

What do you mean by rude? You mean the Chinese cannot express opinions that affect their lives. You want to go amok. What kind of people are you? Malaysia is very, very sick with these hypocrites around. There is no future for Malaysia if these people make it to decision-making positions.

Look at our neighbours. We are still shouting that Malaysia is great. Malaysia is only good at shouting. There is no substance. No future.

Not Confused: It is about time some of the senior and respected journalists and media presenters stand up and refuse to be intimidated. True, professional journalism must be free and unfettered - it should always demonstrate its impartiality and fair treatment of all on whom they report.

The Imelda Marcos of Malaysia should be made to keep out of such things - just ignore her and she will hopefully fade away in time. Let's hope more senior journalists will follow Joshua's lead and do the right thing for the sake of the country.

Ichigo: It's heartening to know there are journalists like Joshua who is committed to the principles of professional ethics in journalism. Joshua, I am confident a gem like you will be treasured by your new employer and hope that we can see your uncensored and fair production on air again soon.

SMC77: Where the hell is MCA and Gerakan on this issue? Joshua can stand straight in front of all Malaysians but clearly politicians from MCA and Gerakan have serious difficulty in getting straight, even by taking the mighty blue pill.

Manusia Jalanan: Congratulation Joshua for proving that sane human souls still exist in this country. Thank you for taking this courageous act. When shall we see such an example from Utusan ?

Mangodurian: OK, Malaysiakini - give this guy a job in your video section.
