'This time around, it will not be the Chinese or Indian voters who will decide the fate of the MIC candidate. The MIC candidate will have to go down on his knees and beg for support from Umno supporters.'
S'gor MIC demands BN to pick Palanivel
Kiasu: It is not about 18 divisional leaders. It is about the fact that, after 18 years, there aren't 18,000 hardcore G Palanivel supporters/voters beating their chests wanting him. They decide the fate of the outcome.
Again it is not about norms. The political landscape has changed. If people do not want you, they do not want you. Nothing else matters. Do not waste any precious time. Do whatever little you can to convince the voters that Prime Minister Najib Razak has good intentions for all Malaysians.
The quicker you sell Najib, who is sellable to the Indians, you may see a very dismal and embarrassing outcome which will put the whole perception of Najib's New Economic Model in jeopardy even before it is off the ground. Please give the PM a chance.
Kit Pong: MIC - and MCA, for that matter - should honestly recognise the stark reality of their lapdog status within BN, and move on. Only then can they make a rational decision whether it is appropriate to continue to belong to the coalition or quit.
Yuvan: As far as BN is concerned, MIC is just a ‘small fry'. It is Umno that decides and dictates. With Zaid Ibrahim of PKR in the race, it is not a question of G Palanivel or V Mugilan. The MIC candidate has to fight 'tooth and nail' and his chances of winning the seat is left entirely at the mercy of Umno members and Umno supporters in Hulu Selangor.
See the irony? This time around, I do not think it will be the Chinese or Indian voters who will decide the fate of the MIC/BN candidate in Hulu Selangor. The MIC candidate will have to go down on his knees and beg for support from the Umno supporters.
And whoever the MIC candidate is, what difference does it make for the Indian community? Why make all the 'noise' when the MIC has lost its strength and dignity in the Indian community itself?
Gandhi: S Samy Vellu's tantrums will not work as the prime minister is aware that a by-election is different from MIC's party elections.
This fuss over G Palanivel's nomination wouldn't be there if only he had done some sincere work in the constituency. He thinks it's easy just because he's a deputy leader of MIC. These MIC leaders think they can have their way like the pre-Hindraf days.
Why can't they wake up to the reality that the political mood is now different from those heydays?
Multi Racial: Well, it goes to show Umno wants to decide who should run MIC. In this case, at least Samy has the balls to stand up to them, and MIC is behind Samy. If it were to be MCA, I am sure Umno would have had their way. They can even decide when the MCA president should go, like what happened recently. If the MCA president refused then, Brutus and gang would sprint into action.
Unfortunately, MCA delegates never stood behind their boss. Now the MCA president and deputy president are Umno's choice. Poor Ong Tee Keat, who was the people's choice, has been sidelined.
Syabas to Samy Vellu for standing up to the big bully.
Concerned Citizen: Palanivel has failed as an MP. He has done practically nothing as the MP and is snobbish to the hilt. How can he go around thinking he is so great and deserve the seat when he has failed miserably?
Hulu S'gor MIC branches issue 'final' ultimatum
Malaysiaboleh: I am saddened for the sincere and ordinary members of MIC who continue to have faith in this party. It is not about face or respect. It is not about what BN thinks of candidates.
The MIC must rejuvenate itself from within, before it expects anyone to give it any respect. That rejuvenation must start with a change of leadership.
Kgen: Field Palanivel and Umno divisions will boycott him. Field Muligan and MIC divisions will rebel. Heads PKR wins, tails BN loses. Let's see what happens next. I hope they choose Muligan, who has a dark past.
Ex-MIC Hulu S'gor leader stands as independent
Govindasamy: VS Chandran, I doubt you are acting alone in this drama. I strongly suspect you are being used by hidden forces to split the Indian votes. You may know the constituency well, you may be popular (a fishmonger who sells fish in the market is also known to many people). The point is, what are you going to achieve by poking your nose and dividing the votes?
I can bet you are going to lose your deposit. You were in MIC and got sacked, now you should align with Pakatan Rakyat and get the Indians to vote for PKR. This is the best you can do to teach your former master a lesson.
Lvbala: You use to be the tali barut (puppet) for MIC and Samy Vellu. You want us to believe that you have changed? You are no different from your former boss.
