Hulu Selangor voters can express their gratitude for all that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad had done for them by supporting the BN candidate in the by-election in the constituency on April 25, said Jerlun Member of Parliament Mukhriz Mahathir.

manek urai by election tuan aziz and mukhriz mahathir bn campaign 070709 06 Mukhriz ( right ), who is also Mahathir's son and Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, said if the voters in the constituency cooperated with each other and did this, it would send a strong message to Zaid Ibrahim, the Opposition's candidate for the seat.

"I myself have gone down to the ground in Hulu Selangor and was made very welcome which I think is because of the people's appreciation of what my father had done for them," he said when approached by reporters in Parliament's lobby today.

He said this in commenting on Zaid's remarks yesterday that returning the BN's MIC candidate in the by-election would provide opportunities for Mahathir to come back into power.

NONE Zaid ( left, white shirt ), who is now with PKR, had told a news portal that MIC had controlled the seat for 18 years and that voters there should choose someone who understood their problems and could voice them in Parliament.

Commenting further, Mukhriz said: "Let us (BN) show to Zaid Ibrahim that his remarks will come back to haunt him."

The Hulu Selangor parliamentary by-election is called following the death of its incumbent, Zainal Abidin Ahmad of PKR, from brain cancer last March 25.

Nomination is on April 17 and polling on April 25.
