MP Pua digs up more 'dirt' on gov't contracts
Sarawakian: Keep digging MP Tony Pua. And dig deep too. We have had enough of thieves from the government getting bolder and bolder each day. Let's all put a stop to it. If Najib Razak is a good prime minister as he claimed to be, he should support your effort. Maybe give you a datukship too.
Satinah Osman: We must give credit where credit is due. If our PM had not started on the voyage towards transparency - even if it was for political expediency - such colossal and massive misuse of the people's monies would not come to light.
Najib hopefully will open up more despite his future being at stake by doing so. The 'crocodiles' and hangers-on who have survived and continue to survive without doing a day's decent work surely will already be scheming to pull him down.
Often it makes one wonder why people take up politics and leadership in NGOs when their lives are fraught with so much anxiety and stress. In the final analysis, is being in politics really worth it given the curses and scolding that follow politicians endlessly?
Rayfire: I do hope BN will take this in good spirit and amend their ways. It is these kind of malpractice that has lead the largest community to remain backward in terms of economic standing. It is your own doing, Umno, that is keeping NEP from achieving its target.
These exposure just goes about to show how rampant such practice is. Repent and change your ways or make way for a new dawn.
Jimmy Ng: Typically BN will now scramble to form a ‘task force' of sorts to:
1) Discredit the numbers and information posted and attempt to explain the discrepancies as typo or technical errors.
2) Defend and justify the awarding of the contracts and tenders to their cronies, perhaps as part of the great and grand ‘affirmative action policy'.
3) Accuse PKR of using agents to penetrate the myProcurement website to plant fictitious figures and numbers in it...
MP Pua must be complimented for uncovering these leakages. I can't wait to see what more will be uncovered by him the next few days.
Ramachandran Muniandy: No wonder during Barisan rule in Kedah, Kulim Hi-Tech proposed to built a stadium in Kulim. The initial proposal was for RM15 million but the figure became RM150 million. Is this how the Najib government steal the people's money?
Clearwater: It is fraud and wastage in government spending that makes me hate to pay income tax. I hate to feel cheated, lied to and treated like a fool. The myProcurement portal at least now gives something back by way of entertainment. So many decimal points in procurement contracts get misplaced when figures are made transparent.
Chang Pei Leng: I wonder why every April everyone is still paying income tax to the government. Our money is hard to earn, yet our tax money is thrown down the drain and given to a selected group who are politically connected through some over-price projects.
Wira: Well done, YB (yang berhormat) Pua. Yes, I like this. Talk with data and figures. You are setting a very refreshing trend in the Dewan. I hope BN opposition leaders in Pakatan-controlled states learn to argue in this way too. Not like the way they accused Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng of sidelining the Malays in Penang. A lot of rhetoric but no facts or figures.
Ferdtan: The main shareholder and director of the company, Abdul Rahman Abdul Ghani, is only 23 and is handling contracts worth RM53 million. He must be the 'towering Malay' that Umno is so proud of. Anybody know who this young man is? I would like to know more about him so that we can learn from him.
Pemerhati: The small inner circle of Umnoputras and their cronies have been siphoning off the taxpayers money through inflated contracts since Mahathir Mohamad's days. This was a heinous crime perpetrated on all Malaysians because they had to shoulder the burden of this theft.
For instance, the cost of building the roads increased dramatically and consequently the poor rakyat had to pay very high tolls when they used these roads. On the other hand, we read that the children and family members of the prime ministers and their conies have become filthy rich, and some have even made it to the Billionaire Club .
The moral of the story is that in Malaysia, if you must steal, then steal really big. You will find that you would be bestowed with the top titles of the country and you will become a highly respected member of the society. This 23-year-old is probably a proxy for some big Umnoputra.
Nathan M: BN must be regretting their move to introduce transparency. They are just giving credibility to Pakatan Rakyat's claim of cronysim and corruption.
Hamisu: YB Pua has done a really great job. If only we have more competent MPs like him, this country would be better managed. Rather grabbing something from the air, we need facts and data. I am sure, and can see, Malaysiakini readers attest to this. Talk with facts and data.
Ng Say Joe: Praises should also go to Najib for being more and more transparent in governing the country. Putting his baggage aside, I seriously have more and more confidence in Najib ever since he took over as PM. It is so hard to hate him sometimes.
Freemsia: Let's see what MACC plans to do after all this revelation by Pua. It was only recently that the new MACC chief vows to bring back credibility to the anti-corruption commission. Well, now is his chance.
The amount of money these Umno leaders make is incredible. They talk so much about fighting for Malay rights and Islam. Looks like making money is their number one aim when joining Umno. And it is sad the Malays still vote for them.
Confused: I think they didn't expect anyone to scrutinise the website to such an extend. They thought that layman like us would not be able to analyse such information. Thanks to people like YB Pua, we now know that corruption in this country will continue if we don't do anything about it in the next GE. I bet they will be discontinuing the website soon.
Teh: This must be the reason why a top Utusan editor has blamed Malaysiakini for being the source of today's (I mean Umno's) problems.
Since Najib claimed in his NEM (New Economic Model) that there is zero tolerance for corruption, he and his cabinet should give us, the taxpayers, a satisfactory explanation on what was uncovered by YB Pua.
