Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today refused to accept a letter of demand served by independent member of Parliament Zahrain Mohd Hashim's lawyer.

Zahrain's counsel Hanif Khatri Abdullah was not allowed to enter Lim's office at the 28th floor of government building Komtar this afternoon.

NONE Hanif, who declined to disclose the content of the demand letter, reportedly also said that Lim's officers were ordered not to accept the letter.

Earlier, Zahrain said he will be sending a legal letter to Lim ( right ) demanding an apology for alleged defamation.

Bayan Baru MP Zahrain has given DAP secretary-general Lim seven days to explain his "innuendos and accusations" against him or else he would proceed to sue the DAP secretary-general.

Last month, Lim alleged that Zahrain was furious with him because his (Zahrain) request for the Bukit Jambul Country Club tender to be given to a private company in which he had an interest was not approved.

Lim's political secretary Ng Wei Aik today urged Zahrain not to succumb to "cheap publicity" by resorting to this kind of tactics.

Komtar state assemblyperson Ng downplayed the situation, stressing that it was not a notice of summons but only a letter of demand from Zahrain's lawyer.

Ng challenged Zahrain, in a statement today, to file his application in the court if he is really serious about the matter.

 Police report filed against Zahrain

 Meanwhile a  police report was lodged yesterday in Penang against Zahrain for allegedly accepting money to quit PKR.

The Bayan Baru PKR Youth lodged the report at the Jalan Patani police station urging the police to investigate a recent statement implying that the independent MP may have been paid to quit PKR.

The report was filed by Youth chief Ahmad Azrial Tahir, accompanied by Youth members Syed Mikael and Marian Shafiee.

zahrain hashim parliament 150310 Ahmad Azriral based his report on a statement by BN Kalabakan MP Ghafur Salleh who said that the offer for Zahrain (right ) must have been huge as he had quit his party.

"Police must investigate this statement because it implies that Zahrain had been bribed to quit PKR," he added.

In Parliament on Tuesday, Ghapur denied planning to defect to the opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat as claimed by Zahrain, and called on the latter to retract his recent allegation.

Zahrain was unavailable for comment.
