Our government of 'monarchic democracy'

vox populi big thumbnail 'It implies that the people can vote but if the sultan doesn't agree with their choice then it doesn't matter who they voted for.'

Judiciary has changed the monarchy

Mangodurian: So the gist is, the sultan has the power to sack the menteri besar or prime minister at his own discretion. This is not what I learned in school about constitutional monarchies.

It implies that the people can vote but if the sultan doesn't agree with their choice then it doesn't matter who they voted for. Is this the real intention of law? If not, then surely we can fix it?

Otherwise we should really redefine our form of government as a monarchic democracy - monarch first, democracy second.

PC Stone: Somehow I see this a BN way to prepare themselves for the next general election. They expect to lose big and thus cling on to power by asking the rulers to support their appointments of prime minister and menteri besars.

BTN: When a country starts to practice 'law' that is contrary to law practiced in the international arena than you will end up in a situation unexplainable to the global community. Take the case of two of our ministers making donkeys of themselves and the country, trying to explain the logic behind our ‘law'.

Raim: As a layman reading your article on the Perak constitutional crisis, I too agree with your judgment that there are two types of judges in Malaysia. One who cares about and respects the law and the other respects the ruling government for all the perks that will be showered on these judges and their families.

The latter are no better than our royalty who use their connections for high posts and government contracts.

Ku Li: I'm still loyal to Umno's cause

Multiracial: Ku Li is playing a poker game with Umno. I suppose he wants to be sacked, to win sympathy and support from the public and Umno members. Najib knows what he is up to and is not giving in.

Instead, he is doing his level best to avoid taking action and waiting for Ku Li to make a mistake.

Louis: Being the architect to the Petronas Act, Ku Li is in the best position to interpret the intention of the act - that is to give royalties to states where oil is found. And ‘wang ehsan' is not mentioned so how can he stand by to see the truth being twisted just to suit the powers-that-be?

Not confused: Ku Li, you have the admiration and respect of a major section of the population for your honest, down to earth and common sense views on the way the country is being run.

How on earth then can you support and be loyal to such a corrupt and ignorant bunch of leeches like those in Umno?

Raja Azman's lawyers cry foul

Arul Inthirarajah: It is shameful that Suhakam commissioner Siva Subramaniam conducted this inquiry without the presence of Raja Azman's lawyers. Even a first-year law student would know this basic requirement.

So on what basis does he justify pocketing his monthly allowance from the government? Or perhaps that is self-explanatory.

Chipmunk: The more I read about injustice in Malaysia, the more I want to puke. Started with the police then the judiciary, then Election Commission followed by MACC and now Suhakam. Who will be next on the list?

Azmil Tayeb: There goes one more agency. Suhakam must know better that a representing lawyer must be present during its interview with Raja Azman.

Suhakam has now joined hands with the police, judiciary, MACC as agents of Umno/BN. What else left for the rakyat if they want to grief? Pakatan Rakyat must get to the bottom of injustices at this stage and eliminate them when they take over Putrajaya.

Indonesian fans snub Negaraku, football association fined

Malayamuda: This is what Malaysia gets after decades of giving Indonesians preferential treatment not only over other foreigners but its own citizens.

Habib RAK: If you cross other nations' borders illegally, you may get detained or shot. If you enter Malaysia illegally and if you are an Indonesian, you get PR, identification documents, the right to vote, free healthcare. Now they even get to insult our national anthem.

Redz: I think the home minister should enforce Negaraku being played every Monday morning at all factories with foreign workers and see how they react. Those who misbehave should have their work permit revoked and be sent back to their respective countries.
