Let the Perak people choose, say PSM
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) national coordinator bureau chief, K Kunasekaran, said today that the legitimate government of Perak should be decided by the people.
Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) national coordinator bureau chief, K Kunasekaran, said today that the legitimate government of Perak should be decided by the people.
“The Federal Court can only decide the dispute (between Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir and ousted Pakatan Menteri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamalauddin) but not the constitutional crisis which is related to the democratic rights of voters,” Kunasekaran (

Whatever the decision made by the court come Feb 9, the social worker said that the winner, be it BN or Pakatan, must get endorsement from the voters.
His stand has been reinforced by the recent Merdeka Centre survey of 805 registered voters in the silver state whereby 74 percent want fresh elections to resolve the political crisis in Perak.
Procedures to be tightened
Kunasekaran also claimed that the state election commission (SEC) is going to tighten procedures of how political parties can register new voters.
He said in the near future, that the approval of locals councils would be required to carry out exercises to register new voters in public places such as pasar malam (night markets).
Kunasekaran sees this as a means for the SEC to restrict opposition parties’ canvassing for new voters. He said DAP is in the forefront in recruiting new voters and the BN government is now trying to put obstacles in their way.
“SEC should encourage all political parties to register the 500,000 potential voters in the state by simplifying the procedures but instead it has chosen to discourage such activities,” an angry PSM central committee member said.
